I Funded His Company And He Funded His Affair With My Money Chapter 02

My family owns a billion-dollar fortune, yet I was the only daughter of my generation.

Rather than enter a marriage alliance and split my family’s assets with someone else, I chose to take in a husband who would work for me.

To find a man who was honest and dependable, I hid my true identity and joined my company as an ordinary clerk.

That was the year I met Hayden, who had just graduated and joined the firm.

He was from a top university, penniless, but gentle and incredibly resilient. He caught my eye right away.

He was the first to arrive and the last to leave every single day. While others complained about overtime, he quietly rechecked all the reports for an entire floor.

Several times when I stayed late to work, he would blush and make me a cup of coffee, take over my laptop and say, “It’s not safe for you to go home so late. Let me help you finish your work. You should head out.”

My heart raced wildly at that moment.

What truly made me fall in love with him came during an unexpected incident.

A female colleague stole my project, presented it early, and then falsely accused me of plagiarism.

The general manager who backed her immediately demanded I be fired, insisted on holding me responsible, sued me for leaking information, and demanded compensation.

Hayden, who was on the verge of a promotion, suddenly slammed his fist on the table and stepped directly in front of me. “Blake would never do such a thing! I can vouch for her!”

“If you insist on firing an innocent employee, then I won’t stay at an unfair company like this! I’m leaving with her!”

He then threw down his name badge, grabbed my hand, and ran with me all the way out of the company building.

In that moment, I knew he was the one I wanted to spend my life with.

I threw my arms around him and confessed my feelings boldly, “Hayden! I like you! Do you like me? Will you marry me?”

After we got married, I decided to step away from the company to focus on my health at home, so I could have my heir as soon as possible.

I left the company in Hayden’s and my lawyer’s joint care.

Hayden lived up to my expectations and ran the company better than ever.

Then, about a month and a half ago, he told me out of the blue that he wanted to hire a group of underprivileged students who had graduated from his alma mater.

I agreed.

Nevaeh was one of them. She joined the company and was promoted all the way to the CEO’s secretary in less than ten days.

Whispers and gossip soon reached my ears. Someone from the secretarial pool tipped me off, saying Nevaeh often brought homemade lunch to Hayden’s office and stayed inside with him all noon, acting intimately.

When I asked Hayden about it, his explanation was this, “Nevaeh works extremely hard and is very capable. I can’t hold her back just because she’s young and fresh out of college.”

“I only moved her to be my secretary for work reasons. As for the lunch… it’s just that she works so hard she helps me with documents during lunch, so she brings her food to my office.”

“There’s nothing between us. Of course, if it bothers you or makes you jealous, I’ll replace her right away.”

I wasn’t the kind of person to interfere with the company’s growth over baseless rumors.

In private, I reviewed Nevaeh’s resume and sat in on several meetings she led. She was indeed organized, capable, and balanced.

I admired such a promising young woman. I not only paid off all her student loans but also gave her a raise and promoted her to chief secretary.

I even warned the employees who had come to me with those rumors. I told them not to jump to conclusions or spread false stories about a young girl.

At the time, I really thought I had made a smart investment in a young woman with a bright future.

What I didn’t realize was that I had only fueled the restlessness growing inside her.

At first, she often claimed she needed to pick up documents for Hayden and changed the passcode to my mansion to her birthday.

When I confronted her, she apologized tearfully.

But that same night, she took a drunk Hayden and stayed out all night, with her phone turned off and unreachable.

I searched for a full day and night and was about to call the police when Hayden finally called, saying he was home.

I rushed back in a panic and found Nevaeh wearing my nightgown, making breakfast for Hayden.

When she saw me, her eyes reddened and she said, “I’m so sorry, Mrs. Robinson. I’m just too stupid. I really couldn’t remember the door passcode. Mr. Robinson was too drunk, and I couldn’t get in, so I had to take him to a hotel for the night. But please don’t misunderstand, nothing happened between us.”

I felt my anger surge and was about to speak when Hayden’s face darkened instantly. He pointed at the door and told her to leave.

“If you can’t remember a six-digit passcode and you can’t even turn on a phone, then the chief secretary position is clearly too difficult for you. You don’t need to come back to work tomorrow either.”

Hearing that, Nevaeh burst into tears. “I’m sorry, Mr. Robinson, I really didn’t mean it! Please don’t fire me! My mom needs two hundred thousand for surgery, and I’m counting on my salary to pay for it! If you fire me, my family is ruined!”

Hayden looked at her coldly and said, “Don’t apologize to me! Apologize to my wife! You’re the one who made my pregnant wife upset. If she doesn’t forgive you, you can cry all you want but you still have to leave!”

Hearing that, Nevaeh dropped to her knees in front of me and slapped herself repeatedly. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Robinson. I just didn’t want to wake you up by knocking in the middle of the night.”

“I’m bad with words, and I have no social sense. I messed up. Hit me, yell at me—whatever you want. Just please don’t fire me.”

Seeing her in that state, I ultimately didn’t say anything. I just told her to leave.

Back then, Hayden still held me sweetly and said, “Honey, why are you so kind? She made you upset, I just wanted to fire her right away!”

“But you forgave her, so I’ll go along with it. Don’t worry, I’ll pile on extra work and make her work overtime as punishment!”

At that time, I still felt loved and never doubted Hayden’s feelings for me.

But Nevaeh provoked me again and again. She even gained easy control over my bank cards and accounts.

To think that Hayden wasn’t backing her behind the scenes…

That was simply impossible.
