I Found My Boyfriend Signing As Another Woman’s Husband Chapter 11

Two years later.

Another graduation season.

All of my students had graduated. Many of them had been accepted into top schools.

They liked me. A lot of them invited me to their graduation parties. One boy even teared up and told me, “Ms.

Winslow, you’re the best teacher I’ve ever had.”

I smiled and patted him on the shoulder.

The woman who once crouched outside a convenience store, crying her eyes out, no longer existed.

Near the end of the party, I stepped outside the villa to get some air.

Julian was leaning against his car by the entrance, sleeves of his white shirt rolled up to his forearms.

When he saw me, he straightened. His gaze moved past the crowd and landed squarely on me.

“Come on,” he said. “I want to take you somewhere.”

We drove out to the suburbs.

It was the same place where we had gone camping for the first time two years ago.

Warm string lights were hung all around the campsite. In the center, on a folding table, sat a bouquet of

white lisianthus.

My favorite.

Before I could process anything, Mia came running out from behind the tent.

She was wearing a little white tulle dress, holding a small velvet box, stumbling as she ran.

“Clara! This is for you! Daddy told me to bring it!”

Julian took the box from her. Then he went down on one knee.

He looked up at me, his eyes calm and deep.

“Clara, everything you’ve been through has shaped you into who you are. From here on out, let me be the one

who stands between you and the storm.”

I looked down at him, my nose stinging.

But I didn’t cry. I smiled and held out my hand.

“Mr. Thorne,” I said softly, “I’m looking forward to the future with you.”

He slipped the ring onto my finger. Mia jumped up and down beside us, clapping excitedly.

Then she suddenly hugged my leg, tilting her little face up at me, her eyes sparkling.

“Mommy!”

The word hit me harder than any love confession ever could.

I crouched down and pulled her into my arms, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

“I’m right here,” I said gently. “Mommy’s here.”

That night, I posted a photo on Instagram.

Mia was sitting on Julian’s shoulders. I stood beside them, smiling so wide my eyes curved into crescents.

The light caught the ring on my finger just right.

In another corner of the city, inside a dim, rundown apartment, Caleb sat in a wheelchair and happened to

scroll past that photo.

His finger hovered over the screen for a long time.

In the picture, Clara was smiling, eyes curved, bright and alive.

He remembered she used to smile like that at him too.

Back then, he had taken it for granted.

The screen went dark. He didn’t turn it back on. He placed the phone face down on his lap and sat there

alone in the dark.

Kaylee was in prison.

His mentor had cut him off.

His friends, one by one, had walked away after learning the truth.

The 3.2 million dollars he once had had been drained by surgeries and rehabilitation. Now there were only

four digits left in his account.

He had nothing.

Outside the window, fireworks lit up the sky.

Someone was probably celebrating a wedding. Friends and family setting them off to mark the occasion.

He remembered years ago, attending a friend’s wedding with Clara. She had leaned against him as they

watched the bride and groom light fireworks together.

She had said, “We should do this someday.”

He had said yes.

He never brought it up again.

The fireworks burst, then faded. The room fell back into darkness.

Back at the campsite, the night breeze drifted through.

Julian draped his jacket over my shoulders and pulled me into his arms. He lowered his head and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead.

Mia was already asleep in the tent, one small hand still clutching the hem of her dress.

I leaned against his shoulder and looked up at the stars.

They were bright.

The night sky was quiet.

The wounds that had once felt like shards of glass inside me had long since healed. New skin had formed. The wind had carried the pain away.

I had finally found someone.

Someone who didn’t expect me to always be the understanding one.

Someone who didn’t make me come second.

He held me like I mattered.

And in his heart, from beginning to end, there was only me.
