I Found My Boyfriend Signing As Another Woman’s Husband Chapter 04

After that, I started dry heaving constantly.

I thought my stomach condition had gotten worse, so I put it off for a week before finally going to the hospital.

The doctor glanced at my test results, then looked up at me with a subtle, complicated expression.

“Ms. Winslow, you’re pregnant. Eight weeks.”

I sat on the plastic chair in the exam room, my mind completely blank.

Eight weeks.

Two months.

Back then, Caleb and I hadn’t fallen apart yet. On weekend mornings, he would still wrap his arms around me and refuse to get out of bed.

I walked out of the hospital holding the test results, standing at the entrance for a long time as the wind brushed past me.

There was a child growing inside me.

His child.

I didn’t know whether I should be happy or cry.

In the end, I folded the report and tucked it deep into the inner pocket of my bag.

I gave myself a deadline.

Caleb’s thirtieth birthday.

He said he had booked a private dining restaurant, just the two of us, to have a proper dinner together.

He said it would be our night.

I thought that if he really showed up with only me that night, I would take out the test results and show him. One last gamble.

On his birthday, I carefully did my makeup and wore the white dress he liked.

When I reached the restaurant, I took a deep breath and pushed open the private room door.

Then I froze.

There were seven or eight people inside. Caleb’s friends, coworkers, childhood buddies.

Kaylee sat at the head of the table. She wore a pale yellow maternity dress, smiling brightly as she directed the staff to set the cake down.

Candles were already lit. The cake read “Happy Birthday Caleb,” written in her handwriting.

The moment Caleb saw me, his expression changed.

He hurried over, lowering his voice, speaking quickly. “She insisted on coming. I couldn’t stop her. Everyone’s here. Don’t make this awkward for me.”

He squeezed my hand hard. “Just bear with it for one night. Just one.”

He led me inside and seated me at the very edge of the table.

Kaylee sat at the center, laughing, chatting, hosting everyone like she belonged there.

Someone joked, “Kaylee, with your belly this big, does Caleb treat you like a queen at home?”

Caleb lifted his glass and smiled.

He didn’t deny it. He didn’t correct them. He didn’t look at me.

I sat in the corner, not touching a single dish in front of me.

Kaylee walked over with a glass of juice.

She sat beside me, turning slightly so only I could hear her.

“Clara, what exactly are you holding on to?”

She tilted her head, smiling like she was chatting with a friend. “You’ve been with him for years and still don’t even have a title. Do you know who he buys flowers for every Valentine’s Day?”

I said nothing.

She let out a soft laugh and placed a hand over her belly. “When he proposed to me, he knelt for a full five minutes. You’ve never even gotten a bouquet, have you?”

My hands clenched into fists beneath the table. My nails dug into my palms, but I couldn’t feel the pain.

She kept going. “Honestly, don’t blame me for being blunt. You’ve been together this long and he still won’t marry you. What does that tell you?”

I shot to my feet.

I didn’t control my strength. My elbow knocked over the glass on the table.

Water splashed everywhere.

Kaylee screamed, then leaned back, her movement exaggerated but perfectly angled, falling straight toward Caleb behind her.

Everything happened too fast.

Caleb lunged forward.

He shoved me aside. Hard.

His hand slammed into my shoulder, pushing me away as he rushed to catch Kaylee.

I lost my balance. My abdomen hit the sharp corner of the solid wood table.

A sharp edge drove straight into my lower stomach.

Pain exploded through me, shooting up my spine.

I collapsed onto the floor, my vision flickering.

“Caleb…” I reached out, my voice trembling. “My stomach… it hurts…”

He didn’t look at me.

He held Kaylee in his arms, one hand protecting her head, the other patting her back.

Kaylee gasped for air, “frightened,” her nails digging into his arm.

“Can you stop pretending?” he snapped without even turning around. “Kaylee’s heart can’t handle stress. If anything happens to her, I’ll never forgive you!”

Then he carried her out of the room.

Chaos broke out behind them. Someone called an ambulance. Someone ran after Caleb.

No one noticed me.

No one saw the carpet beneath me slowly soaking red.

I lowered my head.

Blood streamed down my thighs, spreading across the hem of my dress in dark, blooming stains.

My bag had fallen to the floor. The pregnancy report had slipped halfway out.

My vision blurred. I tried to call for help, but no sound came out.

My body slowly tilted to one side, my cheek pressing against the cold floor.

One final thought drifted through my mind.

When he pushed me, he didn’t even look at me.

Then everything went black.
