I Dumped My Poor Boyfriend, Became Rich—He Said Regrets Chapter 06

Ethan drove me straight to his penthouse.

I stood frozen at the threshold, refusing to step inside. “Chloe will be furious.”

Ethan scoffed. “You have time to worry about her when you look like a broken doll?”

Aside from the raw scrapes on my palms, my clothes were soaked through with filthy slush. “And another

thing, Veronica-look around this place. Does it look like a woman lives here?”

“You two don’t live together?”

“I have never been with her. Not once.” Ethan pulled a document out of a drawer and tossed it onto the coffee

table. “Six months ago, she approached me with a proposal. She wanted to avoid the casting couches in

Hollywood and needed a powerful shield. I wanted a way to keep predatory clients from throwing women

into my bed. We agreed to play the part of a happy couple for the media.”

He paused, as if desperate to ensure I believed him. “The contract is clear. Zero interference in each other’s

private lives.”

Ethan gently took my hands, guiding me to the sofa to clean my wounds.

As he reached for the first aid kit, my eyes landed on a shelf. Lined up in perfect order were unopened boxes

of high-end luxury hand cream-the exact brand I used to obsess over. He had bought the entire collection.

“I talked to your coworkers today,” he murmured, his voice heavy. “You don’t have a fiancé. You told everyone

at the company retreat last week that you were completely single. Veronica, you lied to me, didn’t you?”

“I didn’t lie.”

“Then show me a photo. You and this mystery man.”

“We don’t take photos.”

“You? The girl who used to document every single second of her life, doesn’t have a single picture with her

new love?”

“Thanks for the reminder,” I replied flatly. “I’ll make sure to take one next time and show you.”

Ethan let out a bitter, frustrated laugh. Suddenly, he leaned forward, pinning his hands on the sofa cushions on either side of me. His massive frame completely eclipsed the light, filling the space with an overwhelming, suffocating pressure.

I couldn’t move. Even through his heavy knit sweater, I could feel the radiating warmth of his skin.

“I bought your night, remember? Do you know what that means?”

“I’ll transfer the money back to you, Ethan. I really am getting married.”

His gaze slid down my shoulder, trailing down my arm until it stopped abruptly at my wrist. “Getting married, yet you’re still wearing the bracelet your broke college ex gave you? Don’t you think that’s a bit

inappropriate?”
