I DRUGGED the Ruthless Billionaire for One Night of Passion Chapter 09

I thought she might show me a hint of genuine care.

But her next words crushed what little hope I had left.

“You’re dying anyway! Why not do the decent thing and save your brother?”

“Your kidney is still healthy and usable right now. Once you’re gone, it’ll just go to waste!”

“Who knows who the doctors will end up giving my kidney to? Why let total strangers reap the benefit instead?”

I smashed my phone to pieces, laughing and weeping uncontrollably.

I’d hoped to drift off peacefully in my sleep one day. But even at the end, my own mother had to deliver one last cruel blow.

My condition worsened day by day, and before long, I slipped into constant drowsiness in bed.

Ached all over, from the top of my head right down to my toes.

I must have been dreaming, because I heard Ethan’s voice.

“Zoe, how could you? You’ve gotten everything you wanted, and now you’re ready to walk away and leave me all alone.”

“How can you sleep for so long? Please open your eyes and look at me.”

“Zoe, fight to stay awake, please. I’ll take you overseas. There has to be a way.”

“Zoe… don’t leave me alone.”

I frowned deeply as I listened. I wanted to tell him to stop putting me through this. But I didn’t even have the strength to open my eyes.

I even felt like teasing him a little. Men sure know how to spin pretty words. Don’t let your impulses take control of you. It’ll get you hurt…

Finally, I woke up. When I saw how haggard and disheveled Ethan looked, I smiled.

“Zoe!”

“I’ll get the doctor!”

“Don’t,” I stopped him. “I just want to talk with you.”

I reached out and touched his cheek. “Don’t be sad.”

His eyes welled up. After Eleanor died, I never thought the next time I’d see him cry would be over me.

“After I got sick, I kept wondering what terrible mistakes I’d made to deserve a life like this.”

“I couldn’t figure it out at first. But then I understood.”

“I think fate actually took pity on me. I’ve suffered too much in this life, so it wants to let me go early so I can live a peaceful, untroubled life in the afterlife.”

“So really, I feel relieved.”

Ethan’s voice grew hoarse. “How can you bear to leave me all alone?”

I shook my head and smiled. “Don’t blame me.”

Once our talk ended, I sank back into a deep slumber.

Every day, I heard Ethan’s voice beside me. I also heard Martha, Arthur, Lena, and even Julian.

Just not my parents.

Then came the blaring medical alarm, mixed with Ethan’s yell and the frantic rush of people. I could hear someone crying in the background too.

How can you bear to leave me all alone?

I felt at peace. I’d spent my whole life being gentle and timid. For once, I chose to be selfish at the very end. I had no regrets.

My consciousness faded, and silence settled all around me. Then I heard the doctor’s heavy voice.

“Time of death: 11:43 p.m.”

It was the first time I’d heard Ethan cry since Eleanor died. I wished I could comfort him. But I couldn’t.

All the sounds drifted farther and farther away.

I, Zoe Hunter, had finally scraped by through my short, tough life. And now it was over.
