I Dreamed He’d BEG for My Love in 2 Years—So I Kept My Distance While He Scorned Me Chapter 07

I didn’t deny it.

I stepped back, calm and direct.

“I don’t want anyone getting in the way of my future.”

My future mattered more than anything.

Unfortunately, my dorm application was rejected.

The school said there were no open beds.

For some reason, I felt crushed.

Helplessness wrapped around me.

That day, I carried my pre-packed bags and wandered the streets alone.

A familiar black car pulled up beside me.

The window rolled down. I saw Walt’s face.

And behind him, Kael, staring out the window.

“Miss, please get in.”

I gripped my suitcase and stood still.

A crowd of students gathered quickly, staring and whispering.

“Is that Kael?”

“Why’s Elara with him?”

“They’re not dating, are they?”

“No wonder she beat Kael on the last exam – he’s letting his girlfriend win.”

Kael’s cold, sarcastic voice cut through the noise.

“Keep standing there, and the whole school will know about us tomorrow.”

Something in me snapped after I stood up for myself with Silas.

I didn’t get in the car.

I used the money I’d saved from my part-time job to rent a small room near school.

Kael’s face went flat.

“Walt, let’s go.”

“Let’s see how long she can last on her pocket change.”

He was right. It was hard.

SAT season was closing in.

I worried about rent and exams at the same time.

The pressure was overwhelming.

I fell asleep during tests multiple times from staying up late.

My focus slipped. My rank dropped. My teachers pulled me aside.

Everything bad hit me at once.

I felt dizzy and broken.

After another bad exam, I finished work and walked home.

The familiar black car rolled up beside me.

The window lowered, revealing Kael’s sharp, frustrated face.

He glanced at the dark alley ahead and frowned.

“You really are a master of time management. Working after school? No wonder your scores are dropping.”

I ignored his snide comments.

He sighed, like he was giving in.

“Will you come back? I’ll move out.”

“I won’t bother you until the SAT’s over. Just study.”

When I still didn’t respond, he added quietly.

“Senior Thorne is coming home soon.”

It was a threat. A warning.

But I laughed, light and relieved.

I walked into the alley, leaving him behind.

I could feel his stare burning into my back.

I knew exactly what I was doing.

“Don’t worry. This is my choice. I won’t drag you into it.”

Truthfully, I would’ve gone to see her even without Kael.
