I Could Read Minds But Never His Sincere Love Chapter 12

“Stop, Miles.”

I said it softly, and his voice died in his throat. I pulled my hand from his grip.

“Let it rest. And stop punishing yourself.”

I turned and walked away. I never looked back.

Three months later, Julian and I set a wedding date.

Clara showed up with her arms full of presents, and there was a vulnerable edge to her voice.

“Is he good to you? Really? And you’re not going to ditch me the second you’re married, right?”

I smiled and squeezed her hand. “Never. Not a chance.”

“Oh… Miles bought you a piano. He asked me to handle the delivery. He’s going to Silverhaven to clear his head, so he won’t be at the wedding.”

Then she dropped her voice. “It’s the one you sold to open the center.”

I smiled, nodded, and left it at that.

Two more months went by.

Julian came in holding a cardboard box and a grudge.

“What? What’s in the box?”

“See for yourself.”

He shoved it at me, looking irritated. I lifted the lid, and there was a book sitting inside.

Memories of Hazel, by Miles

A quiet pang pulled at my chest. I opened it, and it was exactly what I thought it would be.

It was our story. His and mine.

Julian snatched it out of my hands and tossed the book back in the box.

“What kind of garbage title is that? If I’d known he was calling it that, I never would have taken his case!”

I raised an eyebrow. “You already knew what was in it?”

Some of the fight went out of him. He grimaced, and he sighed in defeat.

“That was the whole lawsuit. He wouldn’t change what the characters did for a living, wouldn’t touch the main storyline, and he blew up at his editor over it.”

“So why didn’t you tell me? Weren’t you jealous?”

I was fighting a laugh the whole time. Julian looked at me for a second, then bent down and pulled me into his arms.

“Of course I’m jealous! I read the case file and wanted to shred it. But if I told you, you’d have felt sorry for him, and then you wouldn’t want me. What was I supposed to do?”

I took his face in my hands and kissed him. “I’m not going anywhere.

Believe me. I love you so much.”

“Then believe me too, Hazel. I love you more than anything.”

That’s Julian. His love is unwavering, and he never makes me guess.

He’ll catch every bit of love I give him, steady, every time.

And I never have to exhaust myself guessing what anyone’s thinking again.

It’s such a relief.
