I Changed The Wedding Into A Cancellation Mid-Ceremony Chapter 07

We were on our way to the hospital when Nathan caught up.

His boutonniere was crooked. The suit he always kept perfect was rumpled.

“Elena.”

He stepped in front of the car. His voice was raw.

“Let me take your parents to the hospital.”

My dad flinched. My mom lowered her head, like she was still worried about being an inconvenience.

Watching them shrink away from him tore something open in my chest.

“We’re fine.”

“We’re not on those terms anymore, Mr. Hayes.”

The words stopped him cold.

He reached for my hand. I pulled away.

“Don’t touch me.”

“And don’t scare my parents again.”

The words landed hard. He stood there, frozen.

I watched his eyes redden.

I found out later that the wedding fell apart completely after we left.

Guests had recorded the whole thing. The videos spread quickly.

Vanessa was fired. Every project she’d gotten through Nathan’s connections was axed.

The wedding venue sued her too, citing schedule tampering, property damage, and reputational harm.

Between the legal fees and settlement costs, she couldn’t even make rent.

She went to Nathan in tears. This time, he had security turn her away.

I heard she stood outside Hayes Corp all day, crying from morning until dark. When security finally dragged her out, she was still screaming.

“Nathan, you can’t do this to me.’

“You gave me the green light!”

“You said she wouldn’t do anything!”

A bystander caught it on video. Whatever dignity she had left disappeared with it.

Nathan wasn’t doing any better. The Hayes name was in ruins.

Nathan’s father froze every project Nathan was running. His mother slapped him in front of the company’s

entire board.

“I raised you to protect your family, not to let some cheap fling humiliate your future in-laws.”

Nathan didn’t say a word. He just stood there, head down.

Like he was finally learning what consequences felt like.

But it came too late.

My dad needed three stitches in his palm. His wrist was wrapped in layers of gauze.

While the doctor worked, he leaned toward me and whispered.

“Elena, do you think they’ll refund any of the money?”

“We’re fine, really. We just don’t want you taking a financial hit for all this.

My throat closed up. I barely held it together.

My mom sat beside him, the black hotel uniform still draped over her shoulders. She ran her fingers over the ruined mother-of-the-bride dress.

“I can’t wear this anymore.”

“That’s probably for the best.”

“Looking at it would just bring it all back.”

I held her hand.

“Mom, I’ll buy you a new one.”

She shook her head.

“I don’t need a new one.”

“You being happy is all I’ve ever wanted.”

I looked at her.

It hit me then. They were never weak.

They just loved me that much. They loved me so much they’d take every hit before they’d ever let it become myburden

But that was over now. I was done letting them suffer in silence.
