I Caught My Don Husband Cheating With My 18-Year Best Friend At The Car Chapter 03

I Caught My Don Husband Cheating With My 18-Year Best Friend At The Car Chapter 03

We’d barely pulled up to the Crown District estate when Lorenzo set our suitcases by the entryway.

I bent down to grab my slippers.

Lucy flopped straight onto the leather couch in the living room, propping her legs up on the armrest and swinging them lazily.

“Mia, I edited all the photos on the drive back. Pick some out and post ’em on Instagram, yeah?”

She shoved her phone into my hand, already open to the album.

I swiped through half-heartedly.

First came night shots of the Christmas town.

Then photos of the three of us together.

Lucy was grinning ear to ear in every one.

I kept scrolling.

Then a selfie of Lucy made me stop dead.

Her head tilted, phone covering half her face.

Behind her sat a little doll in a suit.

It was the one Lorenzo had brought me back from Sicily last month when he was handling family business there.

I zoomed in.

The angle of the doll was exactly the same as it was right now.

Not much of the background showed.

But I was dead certain.

That was the exact doll from this estate.

But for the past two months, I’d been at Romano family headquarters almost every day, going over ledgers and running the charity fund, working till late at night.

I never once invited Lucy over.

That’s why, the day before our Christmas trip, she’d called specifically to complain.

“I haven’t seen you in over two months. I’m so jealous Don gets to see you every day. Don’t you forget about me, I come first…”

The doll was bought a month ago.

I hadn’t invited her over in two months.

So that photo…

My mind went completely white. I couldn’t hear anything.

“You picked any yet?”

Lucy’s voice drifted over from the couch, lazy and drawling.

She gave me a little nudge.

“You’re always so indecisive. Take your time, I’ll go help Don with the drinks.”

Ice clinked from the bar area. Lorenzo was mixing drinks.

She squeezed past him, and he shifted to make room.

“Don’t get in my way.”

“Who’s getting in the way? I’m great at garnishing.”

She took the freshly cut lemon slices from his hand and arranged them neatly on the rims of the glasses.

Next to her, Lorenzo started chopping olives.

Lucy corrected him. “Cut ’em thinner. Thick ones taste gross.”

“Thinner. C’mon, you’re so bad at this.”

Her laugh drifted over from the bar.

It felt like knives, twisting straight into my chest.

One mixing drinks, one plating—they moved together like they’d done it a hundred times.

Soon, there were several glasses and a fancy charcuterie board on the bar.

Lorenzo set the platter in the middle, then slid the lightest-colored drink over to Lucy.

Lucy raised an eyebrow, satisfied, then took a sip and closed her eyes dramatically.

“Mia, try this. Who knew the king of Crest City’s underworld could mix such good drinks.”

I took a sip. Tasted exactly the same as always.

Lorenzo sat down and picked up the nut dish without thinking.

He handed me the first walnut he cracked. Then the second.

The third one, he passed right over me to Lucy.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I stopped.

For a moment, the only sound was the soft crack of walnut shells between his fingers.

Lucy popped the freshly cracked walnut into her mouth.

“If I can’t meet someone half as good as Don, I’m calling it quits on dating for good.”

I looked at her, frowning slightly.

“Didn’t you used to hate Lorenzo?”

“‘Cause he stole you away from me, duh.”

She blinked playfully and tugged at my hand, all sweet.

“Once you became Donna of the Romano family, you had way less time for me. Obviously I was mad about it.”

“But let’s be real—Don’s a perfect husband.”

That last part, she said looking right at him.

Then she tilted her head at me.

“Mia? You seem… different today.”

I pushed my glass forward.

“I’m kinda dizzy. I’m gonna go lie down.”

I’d barely stood up when Lucy reached across the table and grabbed my wrist tight.

“Let me take care of you. Tonight I’m sleeping with you.”

Lorenzo looked up, glancing between the two of us.

I was about to say no, but Lucy started bossing Lorenzo around like she owned the place.

“Hey, you take the guest room tonight. Mia’s mine.”

I stared at her, and a sharp pain twisted in my chest.

Because tomorrow was the last day of the holiday.

It was also my third wedding anniversary with Lorenzo.

He’d told me a month ago he had a special surprise planned.

Suddenly I wondered—was Lucy part of that so-called surprise too?
