I Cared For Him Twenty Years, Only For His Love Letters To Belong To Another Girl Chapter 07

When I actually passed the entrance exam and brought my scores to Derek, he was shocked.

“Hold on. You’re seriously at this level? Nobody improves that fast. What the hell have you been doing?”

Derek welcomed me onto the research team without any drama.

“Oh, and relax. Thorne’s off in the mountains digging up rocks or something. He won’t be back for at least ten days. No chance of running into him.”

“And Vivian? She doesn’t have the talent to keep up. If Thorne’s not here, she definitely won’t show up.”

I genuinely thanked Derek for accepting me. This time, I joined the competition team fair atid square. I walked into the conference room with my laptop, and no one humiliated me.

Over the next few months, I proved myself. I offered sharp insights, made meaningful contributions, and

truly became one of them.

“Hey! Let’s grab some food together!”

I spotted Graham waiting for me with flowers in his hand. “Maybe next time. My husband’s picking me up.”

Every step toward Graham felt light and sweet. He pulled me into a warm embrace.

Behind me, Derek stood frozen. “Did she just say husband?”

“God, this is bad. I know why Thorne went looking for those rocks. He’s making a ring for Laurel!”

A younger teammate looked confused. “But isn’t Thorne’s girlfriend Vivian?”

Derek just shook his head. “Man, I will never understand how that guy’s brain works.”

I had no idea what they were saying behind my back.

To me, it was just an ordinary but precious day. After work, I had dinner with Graham, then we walked along

the lakeshore.

This was something I could never have dreamed of in my last life. After work, I had to cook for Thorne, help

him shower, give him massages, do his laundry, organize his research materials…

I was exhausted all the time.

I wanted to close my eyes and lean against Graham forever. Keep kissing him.

Somewhere deep in my heart, a soft warmth bloomed.

That night, Graham proposed.

The sunset was at its most beautiful, the lake shimmering like liquid gold. He knelt on one knee and slid a

thg onto my finger.

I laughed. “You really are going to make up for everything, aren’t you?”

He nodded seriously. “Laurel, I’ll give you everything you ever wanted.”

The next day at the competition team, Thorne was back.

Vivian was surprised to see me. “You’d really come back just to wash his underwear?”

Derek cleared his throat. “Let me be clear. Laurel earned her place on this team through the official exam.”

The others nodded in agreement. “We should show respect to everyone who contributes to this team.”

Vivian caught Derek’s implication. She cozied up to Thorne. “Well, who could possibly contribute more than

our Thorne?”

Thorne had been silent the whole time. He’d been staring at my finger for a long while.

Derek covered his eyes. “Thorne! Stop staring. Let’s start the meeting.

But Thorne kept zoning out during the meeting, and every time, his eyes drifted back to my hand.

Derek finally snapped. He grabbed my hand dramatically.

“Whoa! Look at that rock, Laurel! Where’d you get it?”

I blinked, confused. “My husband bought it for me.”

“Your husband! That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you!”

Derek emphasized the word “husband” with extra force.

Thorne had been clutching a ring for a while now. I recognized. It was the same one he’d put on my finger

in my last life.

He finally spoke. “That ring isn’t right. You should wear mine.”

Vivian had noticed Thorne’s intentions too. Her face darkened. She pressed her hand firmly over his.

“Thorne… she’s married. But you promised me a ring, remember?”

“Everyone said you went to the mountains to find stones. I thought it was for me.”

Thorne’s lips quivered. Then he said, “I made two.”

He pulled out the same ring from my last life.

“Laurel, this one’s yours.”

Derek buried his face in his hands. “Oh my god. This is so bad.”

I stared at the ring and let out a cold laugh.

“No thanks. I’m already married. This is my wedding ring. I can’t just take it off.”
