I Cancelled The Wedding While He Paid For Her Dream Dress Chapter 07

Reid snapped the battery into place without even looking up. “Harcourt. You’ve got a PR disaster back home, and you’re up here bothering my consultant?”

Callum’s whole demeanor shifted, losing its arrogant edge, his voice going careful. “Mr. Ellington, this isn’t

what you think it is. She’s my fiancée.”

I stepped out from behind Reid. “Ex-fiancée. We broke up, and the wedding’s off.”

Callum’s voice went tight. “Maren, don’t do this here.”

Reid lifted a hand. His assistant stepped forward and pressed à folder into Callum’s chest.

“One more step,” Reid said, “and everything-the corporate fraud the doctored PR records-ends up on the

right desks by tonight.”

Callum’s legs nearly gave out. He caught himself on the courtyard gate.

I looked at Callum’s bloodless face. “Are you actually scared of him?”

Reid smirked. “He’s not afraid of me. He’s afraid of what’s in those files.”

The folder crumpled in Callum’s fist, his jaw tight. “Mr. Ellington, this is between me and Maren. It doesn’t

need to go this far.”

Reid leaned back against the post. “Funny. You didn’t think that when you were forging statements under

her name.”

I tucked the blanket around the Pyrenees mix and set it back in the crate. “You should be getting a summons

at the house soon. I’m suing you. Defamation and unauthorized access to my accounts.”

Callum stared at me. “You’re actually suing me?”

“What did you expect? A thank-you card?”

All the color drained from Callum’s face.

Reid tilted his chin. His assistant dropped a second set of documents at Callum’s feet.

Photos, receipts, and screenshots fanned across the stone. Brielle’s overseas debts. Her forged academic

credentials. A paper trail showing how she’d been grifting her way through high society.

One screenshot. Brielle texting a friend.

[Callum is so easy to play. Doesn’t matter how much his fiancée puts up with. All I have to do is cry a little, and he handles her for me.]

Callum’s knees buckled. He dropped into a crouch, picking through the pages. His hands were shaking too bard to hold them flat.-

He stared at the words [backup ATM]. A choked sound escaped him.

Reid said, “She didn’t come back for you. She came back for a payout.”

Callum looked up. His eyes were wrecked “That’s not true.”

I looked at him evenly. “Believe it or don’t. It’s not my problem anymore.”

Callum staggered to his feet. The altitude was taking a toll on him. Every breath came short.

He reached for my sleeve. “Maren, she played me. I fell for it. I was stupid, I know that.”

I stepped back before he could touch me. “You weren’t played, Callum. You liked it. You liked how much she needed you, and you liked watching me give in every time you pushed.”

That stopped him cold.

Reid signaled the lodge owner. “Get him out of here. He’s trespassing.”

Two staff members escorted Callum out. He kept looking back. “I’ll prove it, Maren. You’re the one I want.”

I didn’t look up. I kept my hands on the dog and counted its breaths.

Back home, Callum found Brielle on his couch, scrolling through comments.

She jumped up the second he walked in. “Did you find her? Let me guess… she played the victim again?”

Callum slammed the documents onto the coffee table. “What are these?”

The color drained from Brielle’s face, but the smile stayed frozen in place. “Where did you get those? They’re

fake. All of it.”

He opened a voice recording from the file. Brielle’s own voice filled the room, bright and careless.

[Callum is the easiest person to manipulate. He loves it when I act vulnerable.]

The silence in that room could have cut glass.

Brielle dove for the phone. “That’s not me. Someone edited it…”

Callum held the phone out of her reach, knuckles white. “And the statement. Posting it under Maren’s name.

That was your idea.”

Brielle’s voice broke. “I was scared. I didn’t think you’d actually do it!”

Callum laughed, the kind that made him look unhinged. “And you didn’t expect me to throw her to the

entire internet for you either, did you?”

Brielle grabbed his sleeve. “You said you were going to marry me.

He looked down at her hand on his arm. It was like he was seeing it. Really seeing it. For the first time, and what he saw made his skin crawl..

My lawyer called while I was removing the sutures from the Pyrenees mix.

“Callum wants to settle. He’s offering very generous terms.”

I snipped the final suture thread. “I won’t settle.”
