I Cancelled My Dream School To Escape Their Justice Chapter 06

My dad’s lips trembled. He couldn’t speak.

My mom saw his expression and grew uneasy. “What’s wrong?”

She stepped inside-and her face went white too.

The room was bare. The bed was neatly made. The desk was clean.

In the trash can sat one pair of shoes-the ones I’d worn for four years, patched and repatched, the

ones I’d always wanted to replace.

Everything said the same thing: I’d left long ago. And I wasn’t coming back.

My parents’ hands shook as they pulled out their phones.

Mom: [Nora Shaw, where the hell are you?!]

Dad: [You ran away from home over something this small?!]

Red exclamation marks. Blocked.

They tried calling. No answer.

Now they panicked.

“Where did she go? She blocked all of us? She’s never done anything like this-it’s her first time running away from home. With no family or friends around, where could she be?”

Sophie peeked in. Seeing the empty room, she barely hid her glee.

“Mom, Dad, don’t worry. She’s just throwing a tantrum. She wants us to panic. School starts in a couple of days-she’ll have to come back for her ticket.”

My parents relaxed. Annoyance replaced worry.

“That girl. We only said a few things, and she runs off like this. What an ingrate-unlike our Sophie, who’s always so good.”

They forgot about me again.

But the night before school started, I still hadn’t come home.

Mom finally called Liam. “Liam, where’s Nora? She hasn’t been home at all. Did she go to your

place? Tell her to come back-she has to report to Stanford tomorrow!”

His answer froze her.

“Mrs. Shaw, she blocked me. I don’t know where she is I was going to ask you. We agreed to go to San Francisco together-how did she end up in Boston?”
