I Called For Help In Cold Room But My Husband Called Me A Liar Chapter 02

The man outside grew frustrated, his prying blows against the lock growing louder and more violent.

I swallowed the sob burning in my throat. My blood had glued the smartphone tight to my palm, and I strained my stiff, frozen fingers to dial my brother’s number.

The endless ringing stretched on for what felt like an eternity. When he finally picked up, Nolan Shawn’s warm, cheerful voice filled the line.

“Hello? Who’s this?”

Before I could answer, I heard him mutter to someone beside him.

“Take extra care with everything. This is Tom and Sasha’s new house—we can’t afford a single mistake.”

He seemed to remember I was still on the line a second later, apologetic as he repeated the question.

I reeled, stunned. Married? Tom and my stepsister Sasha? That couldn’t be real. He knew how much I hated her.

Mom had killed herself after catching Dad cheating. The very next day, Dad brought his mistress and Sasha into our home. I’d lost both my mother and my father that instant.

A searing ache tore through my chest. My vocal cords felt encased in ice when I finally forced sound out.

“Nolan… please help me. I’m going to die.”

A beat of silence passed on the line, then his voice turned icy.

“Cecilia? What game are you playing now? I told you three years ago—Sasha’s the only sister I have left.”

I curled into a tight ball, trembling as I spoke again. “Nolan, he’s coming for me. I’m gonna die.”

Nolan let out a bitter laugh. “You think faking a suicide for sympathy like Mom did will earn my forgiveness? Do us all a favor and die somewhere far away. Don’t ever come back.”

The phone died mid-call, drained by the subzero cold.

The words from both Thomas and Nolan pierced my heart like shards of glass.

A strange burning fever washed over my body. I sank my teeth hard into my wrist, dried blood smearing across my lips.

The freezer door crashed open with a bang.

My vision blurred to black, yet my hearing sharpened to an agonizing clarity. That familiar whistle hummed right above my head.

A fist clamped brutally onto my hair, yanking my skull backward. A cold slice bit straight through my throat, and the fire blazing inside me flooded out in a hot rush.

As consciousness slipped away entirely, a bitter, hollow laugh bubbled up inside me.

Tom. I really did die three years ago, just like you claimed.
