I Begged The Real Heiress To Take My Life Away Chapter 03

I Begged The Real Heiress To Take My Life Away Chapter 03

My eyes lit up.

“A diner?”

Josie, thinking I was scared, let a corner of her mouth curl up.

“That’s right.”

“Up at four every morning. Kneading dough, cooking grits, washing dishes, wiping tables.”

My hands were actually shaking with excitement.

“Four a.m. and all you have to do is knead dough?”

Josie blinked. “What do you mean?”

My voice cracked.

“At the Sterling house, four a.m. means a three-mile run first, then reciting twenty business case studies, then an hour of posture training.”

“Kneading dough sounds great.”

“You don’t have to do it in three-inch heels, right?”

Josie: “…”

I turned to my parents.

“Dad. Mom.”

“Did you hear that?”

“Her family only makes you knead dough at four a.m.”

“I’m in.”

“I am so in.”

Eleanor let out a furious little laugh.

“Daisy Sterling, you think an ordinary person’s life is easy?”

“I never said it was easy.”

My voice dropped a little.

“But at least nobody’s going to call it a disgrace to the whole family just because I mistook a balance sheet for a recipe.”

Something flickered across Weston’s brow.

For the first time, Sebastian’s gaze hesitated when it landed on me.

But I didn’t have time to notice.

I was already doing the math.

Twenty-five minutes from the hotel to the Sterling estate.

Grab my comics, pajamas, snacks, then a car to the south side of town.

If everything went smoothly, I’d be lying in my real parents’ bed before midnight.

No etiquette debrief.

No brother quizzing me on an English speech.

No mother forcing my neck into swan posture.

No father asking me over breakfast:

“Daisy, what’s your read on this year’s interest rate trend?”

What was my read?

My read was on my knees, hoping it would end.

I had no idea what he was talking about!

I turned to run.

Sebastian’s hand suddenly closed around my wrist.

“Where are you going?”

“Home. To pack.”

His voice was cold. “The Sterling house is your home.”

I looked at him and corrected him, dead serious.

“Bro, the paternity test says it isn’t.”

His fingers tightened, just slightly.

I hissed in pain.

He let go immediately.

Josie watched the whole exchange, her eyes growing even colder.

“So you talk about wanting to leave, but you sure know how to play people.”

I was genuinely wronged.

Play who?

I couldn’t even figure out the smart toilet in that house.

The first time I used it, I hit the wrong button and got blasted so hard I screamed my way out of the bathroom.

Sebastian had been standing right outside the door. His only comment:

“Somehow every gadget turns into a challenge for you.”

Some memories are better left buried.

I picked up my skirt and said to Josie, with complete sincerity:

“Sis, don’t get the wrong idea.”

“Nobody in this house can be played by me.”

“Usually it’s the other way around.”

“Especially my brother. One look from him and I start reciting vocabulary words on autopilot.”

Sebastian: “Daisy Sterling.”

I shut my mouth instantly.

Muscle memory.

Terrifying.

In the end, the gala wrapped up in a hurry.

As the guests filed out, every single one of them had that particular gleam in their eye.

I already knew.

By tomorrow, the whole social circle would be buzzing:

Sterling Family Reunion Gala Explodes: Fake Heiress Doesn’t Cry, Begs Real Heiress to Take Over Immediately.

I even had the headline picked out.

Eighteen Years of Mistaken Identity: Fake Heiress Leaves Overnight, Everyone Left Stunned.

But whatever.

Freedom of the mind counted too.

That night, I went back to the Sterling house to pack.

Eleanor stood downstairs, watching me with a cold expression.

“You’re sure you’re leaving?”
