I Approved My Husband’s Wedding Leave to Marry His Assistant Chapter 05

The entire room fell silent.

The smile on Claire’s face froze.

She looked at the screen, then at Michael beside her.

Michael stood rooted in place, his face drained of color.

The table where his parents sat erupted into chaos.

The AV technician finally reacted and scrambled to cut the feed.

But the image would not disappear.

I stood up, and the sound of my heels struck the floor one step at a time.

Soon, that was the only sound left in the ballroom.

I walked up the steps and stopped in front of them.

When Michael saw me, his lips trembled, but not a single word came out.

Claire looked at me with tears gathering in her eyes.

“Who are you?”

I did not look at her. I only looked at Michael.

Then I smiled, took the microphone from the officiant, and spoke.

My voice was not loud, but everyone in the ballroom heard me clearly.

“Michael, did you forget that we’re still married?”

I turned toward the guests.

“Hello, everyone. Let me introduce myself.”

“I’m Michael Shaw’s legal wife, Lena Carter.”

The ballroom went silent again.

My heels clicked against the floor with every step.

All the color disappeared from Claire’s face.

Her lips trembled as she looked at Michael, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Michael, who is she? What is she talking about?”

Michael looked even worse than she did. His entire body had gone stiff.

He reached out to grab me, but I stepped aside and avoided his hand.

Michael lowered his voice. “Lena, stop making a scene. Come home with me.”

I smiled into the microphone. “Home? Which home?”

“The home we lived in for three years on the west side, or the apartment you bought for Miss Dawson on the south side?”

“You’re insane!” Michael growled.

By then, Michael’s parents had snapped out of their shock and stood up.

His mother, Linda Shaw, rushed onto the stage and pointed straight at my face.

“Who the hell are you, you crazy woman? How dare you ruin my son’s wedding?”

I looked at the woman I had called Mom for three years.

When I miscarried, she had said I was too weak and dramatic because I couldn’t even keep a baby.

Now, for another woman’s child, she was pointing at my face and calling me crazy.

I asked her, “Mom, don’t you recognize me? I’m Lena. Your daughter-in-law.”

Linda’s face stiffened for a moment, then her fury burned even hotter.

“I don’t have a daughter-in-law like you! Shameless little thing, barging in here and making a scene!”

She reached out and tried to shove me.

Michael’s father, George Shaw, also stepped onto the stage, his face dark with anger.

“Drag her down from there! Don’t let her embarrass us any further!”

The two of them came at me as if they were about to drag me off the stage.

I did not move. I only looked at Michael.

“Michael, tell your parents to stop.”

“Today, are you planning to commit bigamy, or are you planning to let your parents beat your legal wife to death?”

My words rang through the speakers and carried across the entire ballroom.

At the head table, Mr. Warren’s face darkened.

Michael looked at the chaotic stage, then at Claire, who looked ready to collapse, then at his parents. Only at the end did he look at me.

“Lena, what exactly do you want?” Michael asked.

I ignored him and turned to Claire’s parents.

The honest-looking couple was holding their daughter, both shocked and furious.

“Mr. and Mrs. Dawson, did you know Michael Shaw was already married?”

“Did you know that letting your daughter marry a man who already has a legal wife would be illegal?”
