I Am the Zombie Queen, and My Lover Is the One Sent to Kill Me Chapter 09

I Am the Zombie Queen, and My Lover Is the One Sent to Kill Me Chapter 09

I didn’t know how long I wandered.

I only remembered walking.

Time started to blur.

The sun rose and set. The moon waxed and waned.

I moved through the ruins a spectral figure in a graveyard of a city.

The changes were undeniable now.

My nails turned completely black. My skin grew pale in a way that mimicked moonlight on marble.

My irises glowed crimson, and my hair fell all the way to my waist, a silken curtain of silver-white.

I no longer needed food.

I no longer needed sleep.

Strength uncoiled in my muscles like a cold spring, and my senses had sharpened into something almost inhuman.

I could hear the presence of living people from miles away, and I could sense every infected around me.

Even worse, I realized I had started understanding the sounds they made.

Those harsh wet, rattling clicks that used to scrape against my nerves now carried emotion and meaning.

They started following me.

One group after another.

Wherever I went, they went too.

No matter how often I tried to drive them away, they wouldn’t leave.

Even the tone of the live comments had completely changed:

[Holy shit, holy shit! The villainess is basically unstoppable now!!]

[Wait… why am I suddenly starting to ship the male lead and the villainess? Anyone who loves dangerously powerful couples is absolutely losing it right now.]

[Honestly, the male lead should just turn too. Power couple tears through the apocalypse together. Tell me that’s not better than sitting in a refuge camp eating ration bars.]

[If the Alpha shares even a little of her power, he could evolve into the same high-tier species.]

[Please, please, please turn him already! Give me an ice-cold zombie empress and her ride-or-die consort. I’d ship that forever.]

I stared at that last comment and the corner of my mouth curled in a ghost of a smile.

Consort.

If Nolan ever heard that, the look on his face would be priceless.

But I didn’t want to be some Alpha.

I just wanted to be alone.

That was, until I ran into a very small infected missing one arm.

It waddled when it walked and always stayed right behind me.

If I stopped, it stopped.

If I walked, it walked.

I turned around and glared at it, and it just looked back at me with a tilt of its rotting head.

All at once, I felt a little sad.

Before they turned into infected, they’d all been living people too…

They hadn’t wanted this either.

After that, I stopped trying to chase them away.

If they wanted to follow me, then they could.

It wasn’t like I knew where I was going anyway.
