Milo jogged out after me, reaching out to grab the hem of my shirt.

“Why are you walking so fast?”

I ignored him, prying his fingers off to snatch my shirt back, and kept walking forward.

But my mind was full of the friendly smile Ezra had just shown me.

It turned out he was somewhat different from Milo after all.

He had a tiny teardrop mole under his left eyelid; whenever he smiled, that mole would quietly shift upward.

“Have you been standing there the whole time?”

“Did you hear everything my brother and I talked about?”

Ezra’s legs weren’t disabled from birth; it was a condition left behind from saving his brother.

So pitiful.

Much more pitiful than Milo.

“Hey, I’m asking you a question!

Stop playing deaf.”

The man behind me suddenly raised his voice, interrupting my thoughts.

I couldn’t help but frown: “I heard it, I heard all of it.”

Milo’s breath hitched, a hint of unease flashing across his face, and his voice dropped significantly:

“I was telling the truth… You do tie me up every day.”

“Yeah, it’s the truth. I’m ugly, I’m poor, I abuse you. In your heart, I’m just an unforgivably wicked younger woman.”

For once, I didn’t argue with him, but instead went along with his words.

Milo fell silent.

Or maybe he was angry. He lowered his eyelids and didn’t speak again.

On the way back, I occasionally looked up to observe the young man who was much taller than me.

He had handsome brow bones and deep–set features. Even among the incubus race, known for their high average attractiveness, his beauty was top–tier.

Yet the black hoodie he wore was just flea market knockoffs, the same style as mine, pilling all over from being washed too many times.

Indeed, if he hadn’t been bought by a pauper like me, his life would definitely be much better.

If he resents me, let him resent me.
