His Thoughts Loved Me, His Cruelty Destroyed Me Chapter 07

Head down, I said nothing.

Lachlan’s voice cracked:

“What miscarriage? Rowan, when did you…”

I took a slow sip of the hot cider Gideon gave me. “I didn’t know either. Three days ago, while I was busy

arguing with you, I fell down the stairs. That’s when I found out.”

“So these past three days… you were…”

The words choked in his throat.

I gave a stiff nod. “Yes. I just lost our pup. I’m recovering.”

His inner thoughts-rife with despair and remorse-turned into a deafening hum in my ears.

I looked up at him.

A tear slid from the corner of his eye, slamming heavy against the floor.

His voice was raspy to the extreme:

“I’m sorry… I… I didn’t know.”

“You don’t need to care anymore.”

“I have to care!”

He snatched my hand, gripping it ridiculously tight:

“Rowan, of course I care about you. We’ve been together for five years. I was a bastard, but I’ll never do it

again. Let me start over. I promise I’ll never fight with you again. I’ll do whatever you say, okay?”

His fingers trembled violently against my skin.

Suddenly, a large hand clamped down on his wrist.

Gideon stepped between us, forcing Lachlan’s grip off me.

“No.”

Lachlan glared at him, his violent Alpha aura flaring in full force.

“Mr. Sterling, I’ve heard about you from Rowan,” Gideon said calmly. “You really aren’t fit to be her Alpha

husband.”

Lachlan grabbed him by the collar:

“How long have you even known her? I’ve been with her for five years! You think you know her better than i

do? Who the hell are you to lecture me? Stop playing the hero!”

“Enough, Lachlan!”

Ignoring the lingering pain in my lower abdomen, I pushed forward, standing right in front of Gideon.

Lachlan’s raised fist froze in midair.

A flash of agony passed through his bloodshot wolf pupils:

“Rowan… you’re really taking his side?”

I looked at him coldly:

“If not his side, whose? Yours? Gideon just saved my life. I won’t stand by and let you hurt him.”

“Saved your life?”

A bitter laugh erupted from Lachlan’s throat:

“He still stole my Luna! Who does he think he is? Saving you once gives him the right to claim you? How is

he any different from that disgusting creep?!”

Slap!

I delivered a hard slap right across his cheek.

Lachlan’s head snapped to the side. His eyes widened, touching his face in disbelief.

For five years, we had an unwritten tacit agreement: he would never weaponize my mother’s death against

me, and I would never lay a finger on him.

This was the first time I crossed the line.

“Lachlan!”

A sharp gasp shattered the standoff.

Tamsin stood by the door, rushing in frantically, eyes full of distress at the red handprint forming on his face.

She whirled on me, roaring:

“Rowan! How could you slap your own Alpha for an outsider?! Is that miscarried kid even his? Or did you

mess around with this trash to get it?!”

Slap!

I slapped her too. This time, with everything I had.

Tamsin shrieked, hitting the floor hard, staring at me in shock as she held her burning cheek.

Sloan stuck her tongue out at her:

“Serves you right! If Rowan hadn’t hit you, I would’ve flattened your low-tier Beta ass already!”

Tears welled in Tamsin’s eyes as she looked up at Lachlan, aggrieved: “Lachlan…”

But Lachlan’s eyes remained completely fixed on me:

“Rowan…”

I stared at him coldly:

“Why aren’t you forcing me to apologize to her this time?”

Lachlan’s Adam’s apple bobbed violently. Eyes bloodshot and crimson, he couldn’t squeeze out a single

word.
