His Secret Wife Was My Best Friend Chapter 18 Two Tickets Each

“Daphne was something new. That’s all. I never intended her to take your place in the family.”

His voice broke. “I went to Rosemere. I found those notes you left in the books, all those little memories of us. You said you’d always love me.

“When that avalanche hit, you wouldn’t let go of my hand. How can you leave me over Daphne?”

By the end, he sounded utterly pitiful.

Cecily felt the old ache, but she didn’t waver.

“When I loved you most, you couldn’t be honest with me. I don’t love you now. I don’t need anything from you anymore.”

Her gaze fell to the engagement ring on his finger. “Let the past stay in the past. You can’t keep living inside it. You’ll only trap yourself there.”

She walked around him and left without looking back.

The rain continued to fall.

Cecily had just stepped into the office building and closed her umbrella when Benedict came striding toward her.

“Colette said Gareth cornered you again. Where is he? I’m taking him to the police this time.”

Seeing that he meant to confront Gareth, she quickly stopped him.

“Leave it. He’s gone.”

Benedict looked as though he’d rushed down in the middle of work. His sleeves were partly rolled up, his tie had gone crooked, and he hadn’t even put on his coat.

Cecily reached up to straighten his tie as he said angrily, “After what he did, he still thinks he can keep coming after you. Has he no shame?”

She gave a quiet laugh but didn’t disagree.

When she finished and started to lower her hands, Benedict caught her wrist.

He cleared his throat, suddenly awkward. “I think my collar’s crooked, too. Could you fix that?”

“Is it?” She reached up again and smoothed it down.

She didn’t know that Benedict was looking over her shoulder, directly at the man watching through the glass outside.

Seeing their closeness, Gareth fought the anger building in his chest. His eyes blazed.

The two men held each other’s gaze in a silent contest. In the end, Gareth was the one who lost.

He looked at how completely at ease Cecily was with Benedict. His expression dimmed, and he turned away into the rain.

Only then did Benedict relax.

“Oh, that reminds me.”

As if something had just occurred to him, he took two tickets from his pocket and handed them to her.

“There’s a concert I thought you’d like. I managed to get tickets. Are you Thursday evening?”

free

Cecily gave him an odd look.

“What is it?” he asked.

Pressing her lips together, she slowly drew the two tickets she’d just bought from

her bag and held them out.

“We both bought them,” she said, almost pouting.

Something bright and joyful burst inside Benedict.

He deliberately drew out his words, teasing her. “Oh, no. Four tickets for two people. What a terrible waste…”

Then he took her two tickets, his eyes full of amusement.

“Don’t worry. I’ll cover yours.”
