His Intern Kissed Him, So I Destroyed His Company Chapter 07

That was when Sophia claimed she had a solution.

“Ethan, I know someone who provides private financing.”

“All you have to do is sign a loan agreement with performance covenants, and the money will hit the account tomorrow.”

“Once we finish the new system, the interest won’t matter.”

By then, Ethan had exhausted every conventional source of financing.

He was also desperate to prove that the company could still succeed without me.

He barely read the terms before pledging every company asset, along with the apartment his parents had bought and registered in his name, as collateral for a loan carrying an outrageous interest rate.

He believed the money would keep the company running.

What he did not know was that Sophia had already planned to take the company’s last remaining cash and disappear.

By early November, Seattle had entered its cold, rainy season.

Nova Technologies officially launched its next-generation secure data exchange platform.

At the launch event, I stood beneath the spotlights as lead architect and presented the complete performance data to tech media and industry clients.

When the demonstration ended, the applause went on and on.

Alexander stood below the stage in a sharply tailored black tuxedo and raised his champagne glass to me.

After the event, I had barely reached the backstage area when my phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number.

The moment I answered, Robert’s furious voice exploded through the speaker.

“Erin, how can you be so cold-blooded?”

“Ethan is in serious trouble, and you’re still at some launch party celebrating?”

“Get over here right now and give back the money you took from the company.”

I held the phone slightly away from my ear and waited for him to finish.

“Mr. Walker, I left the company under a signed exit agreement.”

“Its debts have nothing to do with me.”

My voice remained perfectly calm.

“Do you have any conscience at all?”

Robert’s voice trembled with rage.

“Sophia is a complete fraud.”

“The system she built exposed all our clients’ confidential data. They’re suing us, and the private lender has already sent collectors to our door.”

“Ethan’s apartment has been seized by the court.”

“That woman took the last three hundred thousand dollars from the company’s account, and now no one can reach her.”

I listened quietly, unsurprised.

Sophia did not even understand basic algorithms. Of course she could not build a security system on her own.

Taking the cash and running was entirely consistent with everything she had done before.

“Mr. Walker, call the police.”

I looked at my calm reflection in the backstage mirror.

“Calling me won’t solve a single one of your problems.”

With that, I ended the call and blocked the number.

Footsteps sounded outside the door.

Alexander walked in carrying two glasses of champagne and handed one to me.

“Your former company?”

He leaned against the vanity and looked at me with a faint, knowing smile.

“I heard the court issued an order placing the company into receivership today.”

“Creditors and employees demanding back pay have packed the entrance to the office building.”

I took a sip of champagne.

The champagne was cold on my tongue, but my expression did not change.

“They chose this.”

I set down the glass.

“Come on. The celebration dinner is about to start.”

Over the next few days, Ethan failed to find a single workable solution.

The company he had once been so proud of was placed into court-appointed receivership.

The apartment his parents had bought for him before the wedding and registered solely in his name was also seized and ordered to be sold at auction.

Every day brought collection calls, messages from client attorneys, and furious demands from former employees for their unpaid wages.

He went to Sophia’s rented apartment, only to find it completely empty.

Even the Porsche she usually drove had only been rented short-term from a luxury car rental company.

After losing everything, Ethan finally admitted that he had been wrong.

He remembered every technical crisis the company had faced over the past five years, and how I had stayed awake all night, taking medication for my stomach while repairing the code line by line.
