His Human Luna Managed to Get Away Chapter 18 The End Of A Long Night

That dance competition was the last time-Nia ever saw Soren.

True to her quiet request, he vanished from her world–not a single trace left behind.

Once Northveil’s coastal rainy season tapered off, Lorin took Nia to an ivory stone lighthouse perched on the jagged shoreline.

The sinking sun dyed the layered sea clouds molten gold and burnt crimson. Without fanfare. Lorin sank to one knee and drew a delicate diamond ring from his inner coat pocket.

“I’ve never been good at flowery rhetoric,” he confessed. The tips of his ears freshed soft pink, yet his voice stayed steady and unshaken. “But I want to watch every sunrise with you.”

Nia’s fingertips trembled. The cries of seagulls tangled with the slow, rhythmic crash of surf, echoing across the empty coastline.

In that exact heartbeat, thin cloud cover split apart, and a silver moon surfaced above the waves. Nia smiled, and Lorin lifted her gently into his arms.

In their third year of marriage, they met Maren at an orphanage.

A six-year-old girl curled up in front of an easel, incomplete drawings of “family portraits” scattered at her feet.

When Nia crouched down to help her pick up the papers, the little girl suddenly grabbed her wrist. “Your hand is so warm. You feel like my mom.”

Seeing Nia’s stunned expression, Lorin silently wiped the paint off the child’s face. That very night, he completed the adoption papers.

Maren loved ballet just as Nia once had. Her footwork remained clumsy and unpolished, but she practiced with stubborn, earnest dedication every single day.

One afternoon, Lorin pushed open the door, carrying a tray of freshly baked almond cookies. The sweet, warm scent filled the studio.

“Time for a break.” He set the cookies on the piano and gently wiped a bead of sweat from Maren’s nose with his thumb.

Maren giggled and threw herself into his chest, holding up a cookie to feed him. Something tender bloomed in Nia’s chest, seeping warm through every scarred corner of her heart.

“Mommy, look!” Maren suddenly rose on her tiptoes and spun a perfect little turn right in front of Nia.

Golden late-afternoon light poured through floor-to-ceiling glass, wrapping around the three of them and merging their separate shadows into one circle on the wooden floor.

Nia reached out and steadied the swaying little girl. She lifted her head and met Lorin’s gentle gaze.

Tiny dust motes drifted lazily through streams of sunlight, gilding every edge of Lorin’s silhouette with

warm amber.

And so, all the long night of the past faded without a trace.
