His Final Betrayal Was My First Move Chapter 10

The warm spotlight followed her, draping Daphne in a victor’s halo. She lifted her skirt, descended from the stage, and walked straight to Griffin, her eyes full of deep emotion.

She gazed into his stunned eyes and said softly, “All this time, you have been like the lighthouse in Boston Harbor. No matter how far I went, your light always found me. I once thought that kind of protection was only natural. It wasn’t until this moment that I understood it was the only harbor I ever wanted to return to.”

Griffin’s mind went blank.

Amelia. Divorce. Surprise.

The words bounced through his head like loose marbles, refusing to form a coherent thought.

Before he could react, Daphne had gently taken his hand and brought the microphone closer. Her voice, carrying a sweet declaration, spread through the sound system to the entire room.

“I know you and Amelia will be parting ways soon, Griffin. For all these years, you’ve followed me. No matter what I did, you stayed. I know you truly love me. Now, I don’t want you to keep chasing me anymore.” She paused, a brilliant smile blooming on her face. “Because I’ve decided to stand beside you. Do you like this surprise? This is my gift to you: me.”

Griffin stood frozen, unable to say a word. He could feel the eyes of everyone in the ballroom on him like searchlights, hot and full of expectation.

“Griffin?” Seeing him dazed, Daphne thought he was overwhelmed with happiness. She called his name softly, urging him to respond.

His head was full of questions. *When is Amelia leaving me? What game are you playing now?* But in front of more than a hundred of Boston’s elite and his family’s business partners, he couldn’t ask a single one.

He could only play along.

Griffin took a deep breath and forced a surprised-looking smile. “Daphne, thank you,” he said. “Thank you for preparing all of this for me. I’m very moved.”

The response was vague, but the guests, who had witnessed for years how Griffin was always at Daphne’s beck and call, immediately filled in the blanks.

Everyone assumed they had been together for years and had only kept it quiet because of Griffin’s awkward marriage. Now, with the divorce nearly final, Daphne couldn’t wait to make things official in front of Boston’s entire social circle.

“I knew you would like it.” Griffin’s response satisfied Daphne completely.

Smiling, she took his arm as if it were her right and, playing the part of hostess, led him through the crowd to socialize. The bright smile on her face and the handsome but stiff expression on Griffin’s were, at that moment, perfectly packaged as the fairytale reunion of Boston’s golden couple.

Warm congratulations poured in from all sides.

“Congratulations, Griffin! You finally got the girl!”

“Man, I knew Daphne would choose you in the end. Congratulations!”

“True love wins out. Griffin, your years of devotion finally paid off!”

Holding a champagne flute, Griffin mechanically clinked glasses and said his thank-yous, but his mind had already drifted away. With Daphne on his arm and the crowd surrounding him, he felt like a marionette in a grand comedy.

For some reason, the plain envelope from Amelia, tossed casually onto the passenger seat of his car, kept flashing in his mind.
