His Favorite Killed His Saviour Chapter 02

His Favorite Killed His Saviour Chapter 02

Brielle stood beside the couch, smiling as if she had been waiting for a show. I grabbed her before anyone could move and drove the baton into her stomach.

Her lips were curved with open satisfaction, as though she had already decided I would be the one humiliated that night.

That smile vanished the instant the baton struck her.

Her scream finally snapped Blaine out of his shock. He shoved me away and gathered her carefully into his arms.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” he demanded.

“You’re completely out of control.”

I ignored his disgust and walked straight toward him. My grip on the baton was so tight my fingers had gone white.

“I did lose my mind,” I said. “It happened the moment you stole Elliot’s last chance to live and handed it to this bitch.”

At Elliot’s name, Blaine laughed. “Did that freeloader run to you and complain again?

“He really has perfected the art of living off a woman.”

I slapped him hard enough to turn his head. “You don’t get to say his name.

“His death is on you.”

His expression went cold. He stood and tapped one finger against my shoulder, each word sharpened by fury.

“Why shouldn’t I mention that bastard? Don’t forget, you’re still my wife.”

He seized me, forced me face-down against the carpet, and held me there. “Go ahead, sweetheart.

“Apologize to Brielle.”

His weight crushed the breath from my lungs while the rough carpet scraped my cheek.

Brielle stood inches away, protected in his arms only moments after helping destroy the person I loved.

“If I’m in a good mood afterward, maybe I’ll help Elliot live a few more days.”

I fought him, but I could not break his grip. He kept me pinned in front of Brielle as if I were something he had dragged in off the street.

I smiled anyway. “Fine.

“If you can save Elliot, I’ll grovel and beg her forgiveness.”

For one second, Blaine’s face darkened. Then the cruel amusement returned.

“Good. Let’s see how far you’ll go for him.”

The instant he released me, I lunged at Brielle. I knocked her to the floor and sank my teeth into the side of her neck, desperate to tear her apart.

I moved with the blind violence of someone who no longer expected to survive the night.

Her perfume, her scream, and the taste of blood blurred together beneath the roar in my head.

Blaine dragged me off and threw me across the room. My head struck the floor, but I hardly felt it.

I laughed as Brielle sobbed in terror, blood running down her neck and staining her dress.

Blaine hauled me up by my collar. Ice filled his dark eyes.

“You had your chance,” he said. “Now strip and beg Brielle to forgive you in front of everyone.

“Otherwise…”

I wiped the blood from my mouth. “Otherwise what?”

I caught his tie and pulled him close. “Are you going to kill me?”

Anger flashed across his face. Then he reached into his pocket and revealed the silver locket Elliot had given me.

The sight of that familiar chain stopped me more completely than Blaine’s hand around my throat ever could.

It was one of the few gifts Elliot had been able to afford, and I had treated it like a piece of him.

My breath stopped. I tried to snatch it, but Blaine caught my throat with one hand and dangled the locket beyond my reach with the other.

“Want it back?” he asked softly.

“Then do exactly what I said.”

He toyed with me as if I were a dog waiting for a treat.

“So this is what you’ve become,” I said. “A thief.”

I had torn apart the house looking for that locket. I had blamed myself for losing one of the few things Elliot had ever been able to give me.

For nights, I had searched drawers, emptied closets, and replayed every place I might have left it until guilt kept me awake.

All that time, Blaine had known exactly where it was.

“We’re married,” Blaine said with a smile. “How can it be stealing when it belongs to my wife?”

His fingers tightened around my throat. “Take off your clothes, apologize to Brielle, and I’ll give it back.

“Doesn’t that sound fair?”

His voice was gentle, almost intimate, which made the threat even more vicious.

I closed my eyes. “Fine.

“I’ll do it.”

Blaine sat on the couch and rolled the locket between his fingers. I stood in front of Brielle and pulled off my shirt without hesitation.

He leaned back as if he were watching a private performance, his thumb moving slowly over the silver chain.

I kept my eyes on the locket because looking at any of the men would have made the humiliation unbearable.

Cold air touched my bare skin, and I shivered despite myself. Then I unfastened my pants and let them fall.

Mocking whistles and laughter surrounded me.

“She’s completely insane, but you’ve got to admit she looks incredible.”

“If she weren’t Blaine’s wife, I’d have taken my shot years ago.”

Their comments became filthier, but none of them could hurt me. I had already lost the only person whose opinion mattered.

They discussed my body as if I were an object on display, laughing louder each time someone crossed another line.

Their words should have destroyed me, but grief had left nothing inside me for shame to reach.

My hand reached for the last piece of clothing. Blaine, who had been silent, suddenly stood.

“Enough.”

He crossed the room and gripped my face. “You disgust me, Avery.”

“Apologize like this. Looking at your body makes me sick.”

He shoved me down. I dragged myself upright and faced Brielle from the floor.

“I’m sorry.”

My nails cut into my palms. I was apologizing to the woman who had helped kill Elliot, and the humiliation made my whole body shake.

Every muscle in my body trembled with the effort of keeping myself from attacking her again.

The apology tasted like blood, but the locket still hung from Blaine’s fingers.

“Blaine, I’m scared,” Brielle whimpered, putting on her calculated damsel act.

“Say it louder,” he snapped. “Make her believe you.”

I swallowed my rage. “Brielle, I’m sorry.”

When I looked up, Blaine’s expression was unreadable.

“You really do love that bastard,” he said with a bitter laugh. “You know what?

“I don’t feel like giving this back anymore.”

Before I could move, he threw the locket out the window.

“No!”

I ran for it without thinking.

“Avery!”
