His Chubby Luna’s Untouchable Glow-Up Chapter 06

His Chubby Luna’s Untouchable Glow-Up Chapter 06

The profile picture showed a mirror selfie of a girl in a Northcrest University sweatshirt, chin raised and smile sweet.

The note was simple. [Rachel, it’s Daphne.]

I stared for a few seconds, then tapped Decline.

Almost at once, another request appeared. [You’re doing pretty well for yourself now.]

I declined again.

On her third try, she sounded angry. [Why act so superior? You think one stupid award makes you special?]

My lips twitched, and this time I tapped Accept.

Her message appeared almost instantly. [Finally decided I’m worth adding?]

I did not respond right away.

[Say something. What, did you lose your voice? You used to yap nonstop while following Vincent around.]

[Are you finished? Daphne, you’re incredibly childish. We’re in college now. Why are you still trapped in all that high school garbage?] I typed back.

[Don’t get smug, Rachel. You think looking a little better and winning one award changed what you are? Deep down, you’re still the same fat, stupid tagalong.]

[And?]

[So stop acting like you’re above me! Vincent is only confused. Once he comes to his senses, what will you be then?]

I almost laughed. [Daphne, I could not care less what Vincent is doing now. Whether you’re perfect for each other or make each other miserable has nothing to do with me.]

[One more thing: stop acting like an unweaned pup who can’t survive without a man. It’s pathetic.]

The typing indicator flashed for a long time. Finally, she sent a lengthy voice message.

I played it through my phone’s speaker.

Daphne’s voice was sharp and frantic, full of the rage of someone whose sore spot had been exposed.

“Who do you think you are, Rachel? You only got lucky and went to Southbridge University! Vincent only loves me. He calls me every day, says he misses me, and tells me he regrets everything. Sooner or later, I’ll be his Luna!”

“You’re still a fat reject nobody wants. You always were, and you always will be. You think moving away let you become a different person? Dream on!”

I could even hear her breathing hard in the recording.

I listened calmly, held down the record button, and answered in a clear, steady voice.

“First, I don’t care who Vincent loves. I wish you a long, happy life together. Please stay together forever and spare everyone else.”

“Second, you don’t get to decide whether I was lucky or whether my award mattered. I earned my grades, my honors, and every day of the life I have now. Unlike some people, I don’t fall apart over someone else’s trophy.”

“Third…”

I paused.

“Daphne, you look ugly when you act like this. You’re making a complete fool of yourself.”

After sending it, I blocked her and removed her from my friends list before she could respond.

I put down my phone and walked onto the balcony.

The southern night was unusually clear, and several stars shone overhead.

I felt none of the triumph I had imagined a confrontation would bring, only a quiet calm, as if I had brushed a speck of lint from my clothes.

Once you truly stopped caring, the words and people that had once wounded you became insignificant, even faintly ridiculous.

My roommate poked her head outside. “Rachel, the department’s welcome party is next week. The debate captain says our team needs an act, and you’re in charge.”

“Sure. I already have a pretty good idea.” I smiled at her.
