His Captive Obsession Chapter 05

His Captive Obsession Chapter 05

A few months passed.

Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I’d really miss Daddy.

But whenever I turned on the TV, all I saw were reports about his upcoming high-society marriage.

He was constantly spotted out with a famous Hollywood actress.

Even though most of the photos were taken by paparazzi, I could recognize him instantly.

Mom always looked away, pretending she didn’t care.

But I could tell her hands would start fumbling through whatever she was doing.

“Mom, do you miss Daddy?” I asked one day.

She froze for a moment, then shook her head.

“This is how things are supposed to be.”

She looked at me, her eyes bright. “Sweetie, do you know what it means when two people are worlds apart?”

I shook my head.

“Money marries money. We run in different circles,” she explained softly.

I had never been to the Vance estate, so I didn’t really understand.

Tristan Vance belonged to the most powerful dynasty in the city, a heir and a golden prize, backed by generations of endless wealth.

He could do whatever he wanted because he had a massive empire behind him.

In other words, Mom and I were just a temporary detour in his life, not his destination.

Aside from that handsome uncle, an elegant older woman had also come to find Mom.

I figured she was my grandmother.

Her words were far meaner, boiling down to a single threat.

“Crushing you and your daughter would be like stepping on two tiny ants.”

I was a smart kid.

No matter how much I missed Daddy, I knew he was done playing house and had gone back to his real life.

Mom and I had to keep moving forward.

I walked over and gave her a tight hug.

“Mom, let me take you to the theme park.”

I thought of it as a fix-it shop; if it could fix sad kids, it could definitely fix adults too.

The weather was beautiful, with a gentle, warm breeze.

As I rode the carousel, my eyes suddenly locked with a familiar pair of deep amber eyes in the crowd.

“Daddy,” I whispered automatically.

The man who used to smile so warmly and hold me through every temper tantrum was staring right at me, his eyes cold and completely empty.

The carousel slowly ground to a halt.

“Daddy!” a little girl in a pink princess dress shouted from behind me, rushing toward my dad.

The ride operator lifted her down.

I had just stepped off ahead of her, and since she was sprinting toward my dad, she didn’t see me.

We collided, two chubby toddlers crashing to the ground, with me taking the brunt of the fall.

“Daddy, pick me up!” she wailed, giving me a nasty glare. “Why are you blocking my way?”

Her face looked familiar, like someone I’d seen around my daycare.

My knees and elbows were badly scraped up.

A tall shadow fell over us. It was Daddy.

I instinctively reached my arms up. “Daddy, hold me.”

“Daddy, hold me!” the girl in the dress shrieked, glaring at me again. “He’s my daddy, why are you calling him that?”

Those strong, familiar arms completely bypassed me.

Daddy knelt down, his voice soft as he comforted her, “Don’t cry, princess. Let’s go get some candy.”

The little girl climbed onto his shoulder, looked down at me, and stuck her tongue out.

“Loser. You don’t have a dad, so you have to get up on your own.”

I froze on the ground.

I remembered how Daddy used to be the one who panicked most whenever I got sick or hurt.

He would cry harder than me, completely blaming himself as he kissed my face and squeezed me tight.

“It’s all Daddy’s fault for not protecting my little Munchkin… Please get better soon, does it hurt terribly?”

He would gently squeeze my chubby cheeks, his eyes full of heartbreak.

“My poor Munchkin lost weight, this is awful. You’re so tiny, you shouldn’t have to suffer like this, it’s all my fault…”

I used to think he was being way too dramatic.

Every time I fell, I would pop right back up within a second just so I wouldn’t have to see his eyes get red.

But right now, he was a complete stranger.

I sat miserably on the pavement, curling into a ball, entirely lost.

I just wanted someone to pick me up.

“Sweetie!”

Mom had been buying me ice cream at a nearby cart. Seeing what happened, she ran over, her face pale with worry.

Suddenly, a hand with veins popping reached down toward me.

“Hey kiddo, do you want me to help you up?”

“Stay away from me!”

I lunged forward and bit Daddy’s hand hard.

Then I scrambled back on my hands and knees like a little puppy, rushing into Mom’s arms.

I was absolutely going to find a new dad now. I wasn’t just saying it this time.

A woman wearing a hat, sunglasses, and a face mask brushed past us, walking straight to Daddy’s side.

She naturally took the little girl from his arms.

I looked back at her and realized who she was.

She must be that famous actress—Daddy’s fiancée.

She would be his wife, and he would be a father to a different child.

We really weren’t a family anymore.

I cried quietly, but life went on.
