His Automated Reply Cost Him His Wife Chapter 10

Lena instinctively stumbled back, her heel crunching on broken glass.

“I… how would I know? Ethan, calm down—”

“Calm down?”

Ethan kicked the solid wood coffee table, sending it crashing to the floor. The glassware on top shattered, shards flying in every direction.

Lena screamed and jumped back, twisting her ankle and falling awkwardly.

“You wear her dresses, use the keychain she gave me, imitate the way she talks—” Ethan grabbed her arm and hauled her up from the floor like a sack of garbage. His fingernails dug into her skin, and she cried out in pain.

“You think I couldn’t see it? Did you really think I was that blind?!” His voice was a hoarse, poisoned whisper.

“I just… I just wanted to be like her, so you would like me more!” Lena’s tears streamed down her face, her voice thick with grievance and fear.

“You? Become her?” An expression of pure contempt twisted Ethan’s face, as if he’d just heard the world’s most pathetic joke.

He dragged her to the door and threw her out into the cold hallway.

He snatched the spare key from her hand and, right in front of her, snapped it in two over his knee. The crisp sound of breaking metal echoed in the empty hall like a judge’s gavel.

“Get out of my sight.” He crouched down, his voice suddenly soft, an undercurrent of deadly calm beneath the ice. “If I see you again, I’ll make sure you never work in the Bay Area design world again. I swear to God.”

The door slammed shut.

Lena lay collapsed on the cold tile, trembling.

But Ethan’s revenge was just beginning.
