Her Unborn Baby’s Voice Chapter 07

Her Unborn Baby’s Voice Chapter 07

That same night, in my hospital room, Mary was escorted in to see me. She dropped to her knees, sobbing

uncontrollably.

“Jerry, I was wrong… I truly didn’t know… for the sake of our child…”

“Our child?” I leaned against the headboard, expressionless. “When you believed that so–called ‘voice‘ and

tried to kill me, did you ever think that the child would need a father too?”

“I… I was deceived…”

“Deceived?” I let out a cold laugh. “Was three years of marriage not enough for you to know what kind of

person I am? Or would you rather believe an outsider?”

She choked on her words, unable to respond.

“Do you remember what you said when we got married? That no matter what happened, you would trust me.” I turned my gaze to the window. “And now?”

“Please… give me another chance…” She crawled forward, reaching for my hand. “For the baby’s sake…”

I pulled away from her touch.

“It’s precisely for the child’s sake that I can’t forgive you. A mother who can be so easily misled–and who

would fire a gun at her own husband–does she deserve to be a mother?”

That sentence shattered her last line of defense.

“Our marriage ended the moment you pulled the trigger.”

My voice was calm.

“The law will deliver a fair judgment.”

Brandon’s confession was like a massive stone thrown into still water, sending shockwaves in every direction. The nature of the case shifted completely, becoming a clear–cut matter of framing, abuse of

authority, and illegal coercive interrogation.

All accusations against me collapsed instantly under the weight of the mastermind’s confession and the

critical physical evidence.

The final verdict came swiftly. As the principal offender, Brandon was convicted on multiple charges and sentenced to life imprisonment, with lifelong deprivation of political rights. He was transferred to a maximum–security prison to serve his term. All his ambition and schemes had ultimately dragged him into a lightless abyss.

When the sentence was read, his face was ashen, his former arrogance gone without a trace.

Mary’s case, however, was more complicated.

She was not the mastermind–and to some extent, she had been a victim as well. But her abuse of power, unlawful detention, and use of coercive interrogation were undeniable facts.

In the end, she was sentenced to seven years in prison and expelled from the Confidential Bureau.

Her political career–and the position she had once taken such pride in–came to a complete and final end.

During sentencing, she kept her head lowered, tears slipping silently down her face. It was impossible to tell whether she wept for her own mistakes, for the marriage she had lost… or for the family she had destroyed with her own hands.

She did not appeal.

Before being taken away, she had her lawyer pass a message to me.

“I’m sorry… and… I’ll have an abortion.”

When I heard it, my heart remained still–free of both love and hate. Some mistakes, once made, can never be undone by an apology. What we once had was already gone, reduced to nothing but ashes.

Under Jane’s careful care, my body recovered quickly. The pain from my injuries gradually faded, and the wounds in my heart began to heal with the quiet passage of ordinary days.

After I was discharged, Jane practically took charge of everything in my life. From changing my dressings and preparing nutritious meals… to handling the everyday matters that arose from the case.

She was always attentive and thoughtful, yet she kept just the right distance, never placing any pressure

on me.
