Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 15

Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 15 Not Even A Few Days

She said yes.

She was going to leave with him. Leave this place. Leave Liam.

Samuel had only hugged her because he was terrified of losing her. But now? He didn’t want to let go. His arms stayed locked around her waist.

Ever since he saw Liam, he’d been a nervous wreck, his mind spinning out worst-case scenarios. What f Fiona saw Liam begging for forgiveness and changed her mind? What if she went back to him? What if all these six years meant nothing?

Fiona looked at his panicked, pinched face and laughed softly. “How long are you going to hold me?”

“Lily’s not even here,” Samuel mumbled into her hair. “Just a little longer, Fiona. Please.”

Years. He’d wanted this for years. And he’d held himself back. Never pushed. Never crossed the line. Always the perfect gentleman, even when it killed him.

But he was done holding back.

“Okay.” She hugged him back, her hands spreading across his shoulder blades.

Afternoon sun filled the room, warm and golden. Cherry blossom shadows danced over them, flickering like something alive.

They stayed like that for a long time.

The days before Fiona’s surgery, a bouquet of flowers and a container of soup appeared at her door every evening. No name. No note. Just the gifts.

Samuel would crush the flowers under his heel-a deliberate, satisfying crunch-and toss everything into the trash. Every single time.

Then he’d dust off his hands like nothing happened and go back to reading his book.

Like hell, he thought. He’s not getting his stuff in front of her.

They both knew who sent it. Fiona knew Samuel was throwing it away.

Neither of them mentioned it. That was their silent agreement.

One day before the surgery, Samuel had to go sign the consent forms.

Before he left, Fiona called out, “Hey, get me a coffee? Hospital water is killing me.”

“Coffee’s not healthy. You have surgery tomorrow.” Samuel frowned, but his feet had already stopped.

“Just a small one.” She blinked at him, her eyes wide and playful. “I’ve been craving it forever.”

He sighed, dragging a hand down his face. “Fine. Small.”

He opened the door, took two steps, and came back. “Ice or no ice?”

“No ice. Warm.” She waved. “Go. Hurry back.”

“Got it, you little menace.”

His footsteps faded down the hallway.

Not long after, there was a soft knock.

Fiona knew it was him. That’s why she’d sent Samuel away.

Not because she had secrets. But because Samuel got jealous-overthought everything, spiraled in silence. and then clammed up like a turtle into its shell.

She didn’t want to make him hurt.

She’d handle Liam herself.

Liam walked in carrying two boxes. His hands were steady, but his eyes were red-rimmed. He opened them. Soup. Dessert.

Same as every day.

“Stop sending these,” Fiona said, her voice flat. “It makes him worry.”

Liam already knew the truth. He’d had his secretary dig. Lily wasn’t Samuel’s biological daughter. And there was no way Fiona could’ve had a child in her condition six years ago.

He didn’t respond. Just held out a spoonful of caramel pudding. “You used to love this.”

Fiona looked at it. The pale yellow custard. The brown drizzle on top.

Then she laughed. A short, humorless sound.

“Liam. That was Selene. She loved caramel pudding. I hate it. I’ve always hated it.”

His hand froze. The spoon trembled. The color drained from his face so fast it was almost impressive.

“I hate caramel, and I don’t eat pudding.” She picked up the bowl and dropped it on the floor.

It shattered. Sticky pudding and caramel sauce splattered all over his pants, his shoes, the gray linoleum.

Liam’s lips went white. His whole body shook as he slowly stood up. “I’m sorry.”

He couldn’t find a napkin, so he took off his expensive jacket-a cashmere blazer worth more than most people’s rent-and knelt down to wipe up the mess. Methodically. Slowly. Like he was trying to scrub away everything he’d ever done.

Then he stood, leaving the soiled jacket on the floor, and walked out.

Fiona watched him go and sighed. A long, slow exhale.

She didn’t hate him. But Samuel was insecure. And if she didn’t put a stop to this, it wasn’t fair to Samuel.

When Samuel got back, he noticed the missing soup and the flowers conspicuously absent from the doorway. He snorted. “Couldn’t even last a few days.”

Fiona sipped her coffee-warm, no ice, perfect-and just smiled.
