He Wants to Buy My Heart—But It’s Not for Sale Chapter 10

Outside, Thayer’s fist slammed against the glass with a dull thud.

I did not look back.

I did not stop.

I turned and went back into the shop, tending to my flowers.

The glass door rattled under his blows.

Thayer’s roar came through the door.

“Selah! Open the door!”

“You think you can hide from me?”

“If you don’t come with me, I’ll destroy this shop.”

I ignored him and kept trimming flower stems.

Thayer always meant what he said.

He really was capable of smashing my shop.

He had always been obsessive. Otherwise, he would never have challenged three Alphas for me.

But love could not be forced.

Once my heart died, the bond between us died with it.

I could not let him drag me back into that swamp again.

Before long, noise rose outside.

—

My heart jumped.

I walked to the window and lifted a corner of the curtain.

Thayer stood by the road with several pack enforcers behind him, all of them clearly here for trouble.

A few neighbors and passersby had already gathered, whispering and pointing toward my flower shop.

Thayer lifted his head.

His gaze met mine.

A cold smile curved his mouth.

He glanced at the enforcers beside him.

They immediately stepped forward, ready to wreck the shop.

I took a deep breath, opened the glass door, and walked out.

“Thayer.”

My voice came out calm, without a trace of fear.

Thayer signaled for the enforcers to stop.

He looked at me, obsession burning in his eyes.

“What? Finally thought it through? Ready to come home?”

I shook my head.

“I won’t go back with you.”

“If you want to destroy the shop, go ahead.”

—

“But let me remind you. This is a human town, Thayer. You break my windows, I call the sheriff. The security cameras will do the rest.”

“I won’t be afraid of you just because you’re a pack Alpha.”

“And even if you destroy this place, I can start over somewhere else.”

“You will never cage me again.”

“Even if you do, the only thing you’ll get from me is a corpse. I have nothing left tying me to this world.”

Thayer had not expected me to be this unyielding.

His eyes reddened.

“Not even me?”

“You don’t deserve it.”

He froze.

His expression turned uglier.

“Selah, what exactly do you want from me?”

“I’ve already gone this far. You still won’t turn back?”

I looked at him and asked, “Turn back to what?”

“To that house full of betrayal and pain?”

“Thayer, I’ve had enough of that life. I will never go back.”

For a long moment, no one moved.

In the end, Thayer did not let them smash the shop.

—

He only looked at me for a long moment.

Then he took his men, got into his car, and left.

I thought that was the end of it.

I never expected Thayer to be that persistent.

From that day on, he came to my flower shop every day.

He did not yell.

He did not make a scene.

He simply stood outside or sat on the steps by the road, watching the shop.

Rain or shine, he never missed a day.

Sometimes, when I opened early, I saw him curled on the steps, asleep. The exhaustion beneath his eyes was impossible to hide.

Sometimes it rained, and he did not move.

He just sat there, letting the water soak his clothes and hair.

The neighbors and regular customers whispered about him.

Some said he was my ex-husband, trying to win me back.

Others said he was a lunatic who would not leave me alone.

His presence became another kind of cage.

One afternoon, I walked to the door and looked down at Thayer sitting on the steps.

—

“Thayer, what do you want?”
