He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 18

The emergency board meeting notification flashed on Rhett’s laptop, as sharp as a siren.

Distracted, he finally clicked accept.

But before the camera activated, his father’s words—*business execution*—burned through his mind. He realized with sudden clarity that only one thing mattered.

He had to get Ellie back. He had to make her personally withdraw that damned agreement.

But where had she gone?

The online meeting was excruciating. Every shareholder’s question landed like a physical blow.

By the time it ended, Rhett was exhausted. He left the study and went straight to Daisy.

She was on the living room floor with Beau, playing with cowboy dolls.

“I told you to apologize to Ellie. Did you text her? Did she reply?”

Daisy hadn’t expected him to still be on this.

A wave of displeasure washed over her. Since moving into the main house, she had already started to think of herself as its mistress.

She nudged Beau’s shoulder and answered for him.

“Beau doesn’t think he did anything wrong. I think he was just playing. Ellie overreacted.”

Beau nodded along.

“I wasn’t wrong.”

Rhett forced his temper down and crouched in front of the child.

“You damaged Aunt Ellie’s things. Why don’t you think you need to apologize?”

Beau tilted his head and recited the answer his mother had taught him, his tone innocent but certain.

“The gun room is Daddy’s. Daddy loves me. So I wasn’t wrong.”

Daisy stroked Beau’s head in approval, as if encouraging his “honesty.”

She didn’t notice that Rhett’s face had gone completely cold.

Rhett wasn’t stupid.

He knew instantly that Daisy had fed the boy those lines.
