He Wanted a Nanny, I Returned As the Alpha King’s Luna Chapter 04

I turned to leave.
I heard heavy footsteps behind me, and a second later, my wrist was seized in a brutal grip.

“Stay right there!” Mattew’s voice was a furious hiss. “Did I say you could leave?”

“How dare you refuse me? Who do you think you are?!”

“She’s just playing hard to get, Mattew,” Claire cooed from the side. “Trying to get your attention.”

“That’s enough,” Marcus said, annoyed. “Who has time for these stupid games?”

“You’re the ones who should have had enough,” I said, wrenching my arm free and stepping back. “We’re done. I want nothing to do with you.”

Mattew blinked, then a knowing smile spread across his face.

“So, you’re still mad about what happened. I get it. You’re just saying that because you’re hurt.”

“Alright, how about this,” Mattew announced, as if bestowing a great honor. “In three days, we’re holding a grand welcome banquet for the Alpha King.”

“I can take you with me. Let you stand by my side again. How does that sound?”

“But there’s one condition,” Mattew’s tone turned serious. “You will be on your best behavior. No nonsense, and you will not embarrass me. Understand?”

Claire’s face fell.

“Mattew!” she screeched. “You’re taking her?! What about me?”

“Claire, don’t make a scene,” Mattew waved her off, annoyed. “I’m helping her. She’s a rejected low-rank wolf. Life will be hard for her without my protection.”

I cut his little performance short. “I don’t need it.”

I’d been to countless banquets like that since becoming a Luna. Did he really think I needed him to show me the ropes? Pathetic.

Being rejected by me again sent Mattew over the edge.

“Fine! Just fine!” he laughed, a bitter, angry sound. “I’ve never met such a prideful omega!”

“Since you refuse to see reason, I’ll be taking Claire to the banquet in three days.”

He turned and wrapped an arm around Claire’s waist, kissing her on the forehead right in front of me. “After all, she is the mother of the Riverdale Pack’s future heir. Bringing her is the proper way to show respect to the Alpha King.”

Claire was ecstatic.

“Really, Mattew?” she blushed, overjoyed. “You’re so good to me! I promise, I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t,” Mattew said, stroking her hair gently. “You’re not like some feral rogue…”

He shot me a sideways glance, his eyes filled with scorn. “Let her stew in her own foolishness. Once she’s suffered enough out there, she’ll come crawling back to me, begging.”

Claire leaned into Mattew’s embrace, flashing me a triumphant smirk.

The sight of them, so cozy and in love, threw me back to that humiliating night three years ago.

It was supposed to be my mating ceremony with Mattew, the happiest moment of my life. I had stood under the moonlight in my pure white dress, holding a bouquet, waiting for him.

But Mattew never came.

I waited one hour, then two, then three…

Only to see him walk in with Claire on his arm and announce, “Claire is carrying my child, a pure-blooded heir. For the future of the pack, I must choose her.”

In that moment, I felt my heart shatter.

Then Mattew came to me and said, bluntly and cruelly, “Claire’s father is the head elder. Marrying her means I’ll have more support.”

“Don’t worry,” he’d added. “Once the baby is born and my position is secure, I’ll marry you. You understand, don’t you?”

He spoke as if my sacrifice was the most natural thing in the world.

And in that moment, I let him go completely.

That night, I fled the Riverdale Pack. I followed the Moon Goddess’s guidance and found my Second Chance Mate, my true destiny: David.

He healed my wounds and cherished me, treating me like the most precious woman in the world.

Within the first year, I had given him a powerful heir.

Just then, my phone buzzed. A message from David.

[Baby, did you land?]

[Why aren’t you answering? I’m getting worried.]

[It’s only been a few hours and I miss you like crazy. The ache is driving me mad.]

A soft, helpless smile touched my lips as I read his typically obsessive words.

I couldn’t be bothered with these two idiots and their delusions. I turned to leave.

“Wait!” Mattew called out again. “Don’t you have anything to say?”

I stopped and looked back at him.

“I do,” I said with a smile. “I hope you can still smile like that in three days.”

And with that, I walked away without a backward glance, his furious shout of “What the hell is wrong with her?!” echoing behind me.
