He Waited for Fifteen Years Chapter 05

Lowell laughed.

“Look who decided to show up. The elusive Mr. Lombardi. I never thought you’d crawl out of your cave for my engagement party. To Verona and me.”

“What’s the matter? Spend so much time stargazing you can’t even recognize another man’s fiancée?”

“Everyone in North America knows Verona DeLuca has only ever been in love with me. Since we were kids—”

“Lowell DeLuca.”

I stepped out from behind Shepard. My voice was clear. Everyone heard it.

“You need to look a little closer. This is my engagement party. With Mr. Lombardi.”

He turned, following where I pointed.

He didn’t see the flower wall first. He saw both sets of parents stepping out of the private room.

In my last life, my parents had been polite to him for seven years.

This time, they didn’t even glance his way.

My mother looked at Shepard, her smile genuine.

“Shepard. We’ve spoiled Verona rotten since she was little. You’ll have your hands full. Take good care of her.”

“You have my word.”

Shepard’s answer was steady.

“I won’t let her suffer a single grievance.”

Lowell’s expression cracked. His voice climbed.

“Aunt. There’s been a mistake. I’m your future son-in-law.”

My mother didn’t respond.

My father looked past him entirely. His eyes found mine.

“What happened just now?”

I lifted my hand and pointed at Lowell’s family. My voice stayed even.

“Yesterday. They lured me to their estate. They tried to force me to sign documents transferring control of my personal trust. They also wanted my 15% voting shares moved into a joint account.”

“A moment ago, Lowell’s mother played a video of me being held in their home. In front of everyone. To publicly humiliate our branch.”

My father’s expression went dark.

The DeLuca security chief stepped forward. He snatched the phone from Lowell’s mother’s hand and smashed it against the floor.

The screen shattered.

The crowd that had been circling in to watch scrambled backward.

Reporters’ lenses were practically pressed against Lowell’s family’s faces now.

“Wait. Miss DeLuca isn’t marrying Mr. Lowell DeLuca? Then what was that agreement about?”

“Look at the backdrop. The name is Mr. Lombardi.”

That was when Lowell finally saw what everyone else was already staring at.

The enormous flower wall.

It read:

Verona DeLuca & Shepard Lombardi
