He Used A Lottery Cup To Avoid Me, Only For Me To Mirror His Cruelty Chapter 04

“I can’t believe that even after I blocked Dexter, he’s still this good to me. He’s secretly helping me and even preparing a wedding gift.”

Hadley held up her phone like a trophy, shoving photos of the two hundred thousand dollar transfer and the gifts in my face.

“Dexter had a friend track down some of these gifts. They looked familiar, so I realized most of them were things you gave him.”

“But Dexter told me they weren’t important, and he might as well sell them to add to my wedding fund.”

She pointed at a watch in the photo.

“Dexter said you stayed up for nights to buy him this watch. Now he’s ready to sell it for me.”

“Fern, you’re not mad, are you?”

Dexter said coolly, “Why would she be mad? What’s given to me is mine to give to anyone I want.”

He pulled off his wedding ring and set it in front of Hadley.

“This one too. Cost me ten thousand. You can probably get two or three for it now.”

I touched my bare ring finger and smiled.

“Too bad I lost mine. Otherwise I’d give it to you too, and you could sell both for a designer bag.”

I’d said it to go along with him, but Dexter’s face only darkened.

“You’re just jealous. That’s why you’re saying that. No need—Dexter already came back to you.”

Hadley’s smile widened.

“No matter how well he treats me, he’s still your husband. I won’t get involved with him again.”

“But if I ever need help, I’ll still have to bother him. You’ll just have to put up with it. After all, he worked so hard to come home.”

I wouldn’t have to put up with anything.

Simon was back in the country and already on his way.

I smiled and said nothing. My phone buzzed. Jasper was downstairs.

“I’m done eating. Excuse me.”

The moment I stood, the soup bowl in front of Hadley tipped over, scalding hot liquid spilling all over her.

Hadley screamed and shot to her feet.

“Fern!”

Dexter rushed over and yanked Hadley aside, then turned on me with fury.

“Are you blind? Couldn’t you see the hot soup in front of her? Why the hell did you stand up like that?”

Before I could speak, he sneered.

“This is what you wanted, isn’t it? What more do you want? You’re the one who doesn’t want to live a good life, and now you’re taking it out on Hadley. Are you done yet?”

I no longer cared about him, so his words didn’t hurt.

I just found it pathetic that he’d make a scene at someone else’s party.

“Dexter, I’m nowhere near Hadley. How can you blame me for her soup spilling? If you’re blind, go see an eye doctor. Don’t ruin this event.”

“Dexter, it hurts so much…” Hadley’s arm was blistered, and she sobbed.

“Am I not going to be able to wear my wedding dress?”

Troy rushed over to smooth things out.

“Everyone’s watching. Fern, just apologize to Hadley and we can move on.”

“An apology isn’t enough.”

Dexter’s face twisted, and he went to the next table to grab a bowl of equally hot soup.

My expression changed, and I instinctively stepped back.

“Dexter, have you lost your mind?”

“You deliberately hurt Hadley, so I’ll make sure you feel the same burn.”

He grabbed my wrist, his eyes cold and triumphant.

“Didn’t you say you always ‘just happened’ to draw Jasper? So where’s your precious Jasper now?”

“You made up some imaginary man to provoke me, and now you’re scared?”

“Still enjoying your revenge, Fern? You can live with this for the rest of your life.”

Dexter raised the hot soup above my head, and I struggled hard.

Troy grabbed my arms to hold me still.

“Just let him get it out of his system, Fern. It’ll end faster, and we won’t give people more to gossip about.”

Just as the soup was about to pour down, a figure charged in, yanked me away, and kicked Dexter to the floor.

Jasper tackled him, and they started fighting.

Dexter was older and quickly got the worst of it, but he still grabbed Jasper’s collar, teeth bared, clinging like a madman.

“Playing the hero? Who the hell are you? This is between my wife and me. It has nothing to do with a stranger.”

“Jasper.”

The moment I said the name, Dexter went rigid and looked up at me.

I didn’t look at him.

“Fern,” Jasper whined, touching his face. “Your husband hit me. My face hurts.”

I examined the bruise at the corner of his mouth, and my eyes went cold.

I turned and slapped Dexter across the face.

“Live with this for the rest of my life? Why should I?”

“Hadley doesn’t want this leftover garbage, and neither do I.”

The noise from outside grew louder. Simon had arrived.

I didn’t spare Dexter another glance.

“Mr. Adler, please speak with Mr. Rawlings. If he refuses, we’ll go through the courts. I’ll see it through.”

I took Jasper’s hand and left.

Dexter stood there stunned and confused. “Speak about what?”

Simon handed him the divorce agreement. In that instant, Dexter’s eyes went wide with rage.

He scrambled off the floor and tore after me, completely unhinged.
