That evening, at a hotel in Red Mesa County, Kyle was slumped in the lobby scrolling through his phone

when he jolted upright.

“Holy shit!” He shoved his phone into Chase’s face. “Chase! Quinn just posted-she’s getting married

tomorrow!”

“So let her.” Chase rubbed his tired eyes. “I’m not going back. Let’s see how she pulls it off without a groom.”

Kyle stammered, his face going pale.

“The groom-” Kyle couldn’t finish. He just shoved the phone into Chase’s hands. “See for yourself.”

Chase’s eyes scanned the screen, then stopped cold. He went rigid.

He shot up, ignoring Lena’s startled call behind him, and sprinted out of the lobby like a man possessed.

He didn’t grab his jacket, just a thin shirt. He ran, calling Quinn’s number over and over, but it went straight to

voicemail.

He lunged for a cab on the curb.

But before he could open the door, Lena’s hand clamped down.

She shoved half her body in, hair wild, chest heaving.

“Chase! Where are you going?!”

“The airport!” He shook her off, his voice raw. “Let go!”

“Are you insane?! Tomorrow’s the auction, everyone’s bet their whole savings. You can’t just leave!”

Kyle and the others ran up behind her.

“Chase-wait! Let’s talk about this!”

“I don’t care!” He spun around, voice cracking. “She’s getting married! To Grant, that bastard!”
