He Turned Me Down, So I Dated His Best Friend Instead Chapter 03

I lifted my head

and found Julian standing over me.

From beside the desk, he looked down at me.

Dawn’s purse was still in his hand.

It was pink and delicate.

I’d seen the same designer bag online. It cost several thousand dollars.

I looked away and answered as though nothing was wrong.

“Nothing. I just didn’t sleep well last night.”

He lowered his eyes and watched me for a long moment.

“That’s all?”

“You saw the post, didn’t you?”

He was asking

whether the post was why I hadn’t slept.

I didn’t answer him.

Instead, I said,

“That’s really none of your business.”

Without waiting to see his reaction, I stood and walked out of the classroom.

At the door,

Dawn came in and passed right by me.

I heard her ask,

“What took you so long?”

“I saw you talking to that girl. Do you know her well? She seems nice. She let me borrow her pen earlier.”

Julian answered in an even voice.

It gave nothing away.

“Her? We aren’t close.”

I kept going until I was outside the academic building.

The dorm was empty when I got back.

My roommates had all gone to lunch.

I stood at the sink and splashed cold water over my face.

Spring sunlight streamed through the window. I stared at my reflection, and the tears came all at once.
