He Took the Memory Potion Instead of Me Chapter 07

He Took the Memory Potion Instead of Me Chapter 07

Something dark and molten surged in my chest.

“You think one throwaway line from you fixes anything?”

The rest poured out.

“Why don’t you walk into a homeless shelter and say, ‘Just get a house’? Or tell someone with depression, ‘Have you tried being happy?’ That’s what you sound like. Every word out of your mouth is meaningless. You think you’re some hero with a savior complex?”

“You think you can say one nice thing and make it all disappear? Wipe out years of damage just like that? Make someone so grateful they fall at your feet? Some people are just unlucky, and some people can’t stop their own minds from eating them alive. Cheap advice from someone who’s never struggled a day in his life is just a joke.”

“Oh-and the second I walked upstairs and saw this mansion? I started hating you for that too, rich

boy.”

I ran out of air. My chest was heaving, my palms slick with sweat.

I waited for the frown.

I waited for the disgust. The flinch. The part where he turned around and walked away.

Callum just looked at me.

His lips parted.

“You just went off on me… That means you’re finally letting me see the real you.”

He smiled-a full, genuine smile, his eyes crinkling. “And honestly? The fact that you’re fighting back means you haven’t given up. That’s a good thing.”

I said nothing.

Tessa walked into the basement right then.

“Callum, why are you grinning like a lunatic down here?”

Callum turned to her. “Tessa, I finally get why I locked her up.

His eyes were burning.

“I’m crazy about her.”

Tessa stared at him.

Then she exploded. “Callum, are you out of your mind? You’re about to get engaged to Sienna. She’s perfect for you-stop blowing everything up!”

Callum blinked, all innocence.

“Sienna? Don’t know her.”

He shrugged. “I’m not marrying someone I don’t love. I don’t treat marriage like a corporate merger, and I don’t cave to pressure. Sorry.”

Tessa let out a scream and launched herself at him, fists swinging.

Callum just stood there smiling and let her hit him.

When she finally ran out of steam, she shoved him upstairs.

That left Tessa and me alone.

Tessa stood at the bottom of the stairs. For the first time, she swallowed her pride.

“Maren. Please. If you actually care about him, let him go.”

“He’s a good person. He deserves to be happy. He deserves someone who isn’t-” She paused. “Someone who’s healthy.”

I nodded slowly. “Okay.”
