He Took His Childhood Friend to the World Cup, Leaving Me With Their Cat Chapter 06

“Honey! Oh my god, Honey!”

Chloe shrieked, hitting a wall of horror before bending over and dry-heaving violently.

Barrett let out a massive gasp of relief, quickly grabbing a hysterical Chloe and dragging her out of the

bathroom.

Chloe completely broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

“My cat is dead! How is she dead? Barrett, my cat is dead!”

“What am I going to do? My heart hurts so much. Barrett, why did Sloane kill my cat?”

“If she hates me, if she has a problem with me, she should have come for me!”

“Why would she be so heartless? Why kill my cat?”

She was utterly broken, sinking limp into Barrett’s chest.

Barrett held her tight, trying to soothe her. “I’ll buy you another one, okay? An exact match, I promise.”

“You can’t buy another Honey! She was one of a kind, just like you!”

“Don’t you know how much she meant to me?”

The cat had been a birthday gift from Barrett four years ago.

Chloe had gotten completely wasted at the party, crying into his chest.

“You have Sloane. Who do I have?”

“I’m completely alone. I don’t even have anyone to talk to.

“And it’s not like you can be here for me all the time.”

The very next day, Barrett bought her that cat.

Chloe used to declare herself the mommy, Barrett the daddy.

They were a happy little family of three.

Sloane had been standing right there at the time, waiting for Barrett to correct her.

But Barrett had just smiled and stayed dead silent.

Chloe gripped Barrett’s collar, her voice cracking as she screamed at him. “You always said Sloane was so sweet! Why did she murder our cat?”

“Is she really that threatened by me?”

“You guys were supposed to get married tomorrow! I literally agreed to be her bridesmaid!”

“Why would she do this to me?”

Barrett’s heart ached looking at Chloe crying until she couldn’t breathe.

He made a fierce promise. “I will make Sloane apologize to you.”

“She went way too far this time.”

With that, Barrett pulled out his phone.

He dialed Sloane. “The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”

He tried a second time and got the exact same automated recording.

Anxious and irritated, he went to start a FaceTime call, only to notice the bright red exclamation mark right under the message he had sent her on his way home.

Sloane had blocked him.

Barrett’s temper flared instantly.

Chloe furiously pulled out her own phone and dialed Sloane.

The exact same automated voice boomed through her speaker.

She switched to a voice note: “Sloane, why did you kill my cat? If you have an issue, take it out on me! How can you be this evil?”

The second she hit send, a bright red exclamation mark popped up.

She was blocked too.

Chloe took all her rage out on Barrett. “Look at the woman you chose!”

“She’s a psychopath! Are you seriously still going to marry a monster like her?”

Barrett kept his mouth shut, too angry to reply.

He didn’t even care about the dead cat anymore-he was furious that Sloane had blocked him without saying a word.

And that she had left his place looking like a total dump.

He marched Chloe straight to Sloane’s corporate office.

Only to find out Sloane had resigned the exact day he and Chloe flew out for the World Cup. AA

For twelve years, Sloane had told him absolutely everything she did.

This was the first time he was completely in the dark about her life.

A cold wave of panic hit Barrett’s chest.

He started frantically calling every single mutual friend they had, hitting up everyone he could possibly

think of.

Nobody had any idea where Sloane went.

Suddenly, a memory flashed in Barrett’s mind-the massive fight they had right before he left for the game.

The way Sloane’s eyes had been bloodshot and furious when she told him:

“I’ve lost my mind trying to cut you out of my life! Barrett, I regret every single second of the twelve years I wasted loving you!”

The panic in Barrett’s chest solidified into absolute terror.
