He Thought I’d Never Leave, Until I Forgot Who He Was Chapter 02

The room seemed to go completely still.

After a long moment, Julian lifted his head. The smile vanished from his eyes.

“So you found out?”

“Why?”

Tears slipped down my face before I could stop them.

He sat down calmly.

“Because you’re older now. You’re not young anymore. Men like younger women. That’s all there is to it.”

My whole body shook.

“When we got married, you told me that if you ever betrayed me, I could kill you.”

Julian stood, picked up the fruit knife from the table, and calmly put it in my hand.

“Go ahead. Stab me as many times as you want, until you’re no longer angry.”

I took the knife, but my fingers went limp, and it slipped from my hand.

“Is it because I can’t have children? You said you didn’t care!”

“I really don’t mind!”

He reached out and carefully wiped the tears from the corner of my eye.

“I told you before. If you betrayed me, I’d leave you.”

I would leave him, both physically and mentally.

He gave me an unconcerned smirk.

“Baby, you’re not young anymore. After all the times I’ve had you, who else would want you now?”

“Your parents are dead. Your people back home cut you off. Without me, you’d have no one. So I’m not scared you’ll leave.”

“Because you’ll come back.”

For the first time, the man in front of me felt like a stranger.

“But have you forgotten? I’m under the Forgetting Hex. If you betray me, I’ll forget you.”

“Then forget about my affairs first!”

He helped me up from the floor and tucked a blanket around me.

Taking care of me had become instinct for him over the years. Even while we fought, he never forgot the small things.

He ruffled my hair.

“Come on, Evie. You’re too old for childish stories. Stop trying to fool me with them.”

“I’m only with those women for the novelty. None of them will ever threaten your place.”

He kissed me on the lips.

“If any of them dares to flaunt our affair in your face, I’ll drop her without hesitation.”

I looked at him.

“Even Sienna?”

His smile froze.

“She’s carrying your baby, isn’t she?”

He straightened and looked down at me.

“Is this an interrogation now? You can’t have a child. I found someone who could. What’s wrong with that?”

I looked at him and struggled to force out each word.

“Julian, I want a divorce.”

He crouched in front of me, his expression turning gentle again.

“I still love you. When I get bored of the others, I’ll come home.”

“No one’s going to sit around waiting for you!”

He sounded utterly unconcerned.

“But you will, won’t you? You have nowhere else to go.”

I couldn’t look at him anymore.

I turned and walked away without looking back.

That night, cold seeped through my entire body.

I fought desperately to hold on to certain memories, but they were pulled away anyway, one after another.

The next morning, I woke with the nagging feeling that I’d forgotten something.

I just couldn’t remember what.

I walked into the living room.

Julian was in the kitchen making oatmeal.

He looked at me gently. “The divorce papers are on the table.”

I froze.

“You want to divorce me?”

I looked up at him, trembling.

“Why?”

Julian lowered his eyes.

He looked at me with a hint of amusement.

“You forgot?”

He nodded as if he understood.

He picked up the divorce papers.

“I wasn’t planning to go through with it anyway. Since you’re giving me a way out, I’ll take it.”

Then he tore the papers in half.
