He Thought I Became His Perfect Luna, I Had Only Stopped Loving Him Chapter 01

Everyone said I’d become the “perfect” Luna Stellan had always wanted after the silver bullet grazed my brain.

I stopped caring when he came home.

I stopped watching the clock when he worked past midnight.

I even stopped scanning the patrol roster for spies before he led his warriors out.

But he didn’t know the truth.

I hadn’t grown perfect.

I’d simply forgotten how to love him.

I was still trying to figure out who I was.

Because of the silver fragment lodged in my skull, everything I ate triggered violent nausea and dizziness.

And Stellan, my Alpha, looked me dead in the eyes and said:

“Really? You’re going to use the starvation act again to manipulate me?”

I stared at him.

A memory surfaced. Sudden. Unwanted.

It was a conversation I’d overheard the night I was shot.

“Alpha Greywick, a bet’s a bet! That private reserve of moon brew is yours!”

“Bramlock actually took the bullet for you. She really is head over heels. Risky game though. She almost didn’t make it back.”

“Right, and all just so you could keep Rhoslyn around as your private medical attendant with a clean excuse. Aren’t you scared Bramlock will leave when she finds out?”

“She won’t leave.” Stellan’s voice was calm. Flat. “Getting shot was an accident. At least she doesn’t have the energy to make a scene about Rhoslyn anymore. I’ll make it up to her eventually.”

A sharp ringing sliced through my skull.

The healer’s words echoed back:

“The silver fragment is pressing against the nerve center. The memory loss will continue to progress…”

I said nothing.

And then, finally, I remembered who I was.

I was Aelwen Bramlock. A Luna who was never truly loved by her Alpha.

Stellan’s patience snapped. He started pacing.

“How many times do I have to say it? Rhoslyn and I are nothing. She ran a fever that night, had nobody with her, so I stayed for a bit. That’s all.”

He stopped. Turned.

“And if you hadn’t run off like that, would we have even run into those rogues? Would you have gotten shot?”

He stood over me, shadow swallowing the light.

“Find a time to go apologize to Rhoslyn.”

Apologize.

I nearly died because of rogues, and I was supposed to apologize to someone who didn’t have a single scratch on her?

A brutal headache stripped the last of my fight out of me. I was just… tired.

I let out a short, humorless laugh and turned away.

Stellan’s eyes narrowed.

Then his phone rang.

He grabbed it. Rhoslyn’s voice came through the speaker:

“Stellan… I feel dizzy. I think the fever’s coming back.”

“Go check on Rhoslyn,” I said before he could respond.

He froze. Started to say something.

But I’d already walked into the bedroom and closed the door.

The door blocked the sight of him. Not his voice.

“I’ll be right there,” he told her.

His footsteps faded quickly.

The moment he left, the house phone rang.

Clara, a healer at the hospital and a coworker, her voice tight with worry.

“Aelwen. The specialist up in the Northern packs confirmed the surgery date. Next month. But I have to warn you again: removing that silver fragment carries extreme risk. The odds of surviving the procedure are… not good. Are you really not going to tell Alpha Greywick?”

I looked out the window.

The night was black. It swallowed every star.

Silence stretched.

Then I answered.

“There’s no need.”

“Soon,” I said quietly, “he won’t be my Alpha anymore.”

Stellan Greywick, the youngest and most powerful Alpha anyone had seen in a generation. Features carved as though the Moon Goddess herself had shaped them. Cold to the point of seeming emotionless. They said no woman could get close to him.

Five years ago, he pursued me like a wildfire.

He filled an entire field on the edge of town with fireworks and let them burn all night just for me.

He gave me a wedding that left every woman in the pack breathless with envy.

After our wedding night, he disappeared into cold silence for five years.

I’d told myself he was just reserved. Just bad at expressing himself. So I poured every scrap of warmth I had into trying to melt him down.

Then Rhoslyn joined the pack.

Rhoslyn, a rogue’s daughter with a criminal record, and the woman Stellan had once called his first love.

Someone had told me once, voice dripping with sarcasm:

“You fool… you really think the Alpha loves you? You’re nothing but a shield, something pretty to show the elders while he protects who he actually wants.”

“The elders made it clear from the beginning: his Luna had to be a woman of standing. You, the pack’s best healer, but with no family name backing you. So the Alpha made a deal. Marry you, and the elders would let Rhoslyn join the pack.”

I’d gone home and confronted him. Screaming. Falling apart.

He’d thrown a glass against the wall.

His eyes went cold.

“Aelwen. When did you get so completely unreasonable? Rhoslyn is like a sister to me. Taking care of her is the right thing to do. Can you stop being so narrow-minded?”

That night, I left for the first time.

Then the rogue raid hit.

I got the emergency call from the warriors. I sprinted to the border like a woman possessed. When I got there, Rhoslyn was trembling in Stellan’s arms.

The gun barrel was pointed at his back.

My body moved before my mind did.

When the shot rang out, I felt my soul go cold. Then nothing. Just darkness.

When I woke up, the world was in pieces.

The cruel joke of it all? While I lay on the operating table fighting for my life, he was at Rhoslyn’s apartment celebrating her dog’s birthday.

I was done.

Done being a puppet Luna.

If he wanted Rhoslyn, fine. Let them have each other.

I pulled up the directory and found Elder Lioraen’s contact. One of the most respected figures in pack history.

I wrote him a letter.

I want to dissolve the Luna bond.
