I didn’t answer, continuing to fold a trench coat into the suitcase.

Julian slammed the takeout bag onto the coffee table. “I asked you a question. What kind of tantrum is this?”

I stood up, looking at him calmly. “I’m not throwing a tantrum. I’m moving out.”

Julian’s brow furrowed deep. “Is this about last night? I already explained it to you. There is absolutely nothing going on between Chloe and me. We are just ordinary friends.”

I laughed softly and went back to packing.

Julian marched over and grabbed my arm roughly. “Elena, look at me when I’m talking to you!”

I violently yanked my arm from his grip. “Let go of me, Julian.”

He didn’t, but a flicker of genuine panic crossed his eyes. “Listen, Chloe called me today. She and Nolan broke up.”

My hands paused slightly.

Julian rushed out his words, “She’s been crying in a coffee shop all afternoon. She said Nolan never loved her, that his entire persona was a lie.”

I let out a cold sneer. Well, the “lie” part was certainly true. But Julian didn’t know the romance was staged; he honestly believed Chloe had been heartbroken by some tech guy. He honestly pitied her.

“Elena, please don’t leave right now,” Julian pleaded, his face tight with anxiety. “Let’s put our issues aside for a moment. Chloe is in a dangerous psychological state right now, and she needs her friends. You’re her best friend. Go take her out for a drink or dinner, she’s completely alone—”

I couldn’t stand the sound of his voice for another second. I slammed the clothes in my hand hard onto the floor. “Julian Vance.”

He flinched. “Yeah?”

“I am moving out this very minute, and we are officially over!”
