He Speaks to Everyone But Me Chapter 10

[Ella’s POV]

I heard Owen barely slept.

The house was so quiet that he kept rewatching old security footage: me in the kitchen, me coming home with strawberries, me on the couch telling him about the sunset.

He used to hate those words.

Now he played them on loop until morning.

Once, drunk, he sent me voice messages.

“Ella, I passed a flower shop today. New roses. I wanted to tell you. But you won’t listen anymore.”

I didn’t reply.

The next day, all his messages showed red delivery errors.

He’d been blocked.

Later, I learned Owen quit his job and cut ties with Becca for good.

She asked him, “If you really loved Ella, why did you give all your words to me?”

He said, “Because I’m an idiot. And because it took me too long to understand that every single thing she said was her way of loving me.”

But too late is too late.

Miss a bus, you can catch the next.

Miss a love, there’s no second chance.

My life grew new leaves.

Clara taught me floral arrangements. Sophie Hart from the coffee shop saved me slices of cake. On sunny days, I took photos by the sea.

When I saw pretty clouds, I’d murmur, “Beautiful sunset today.”

Not for anyone.

Just because it was.

Spring came, and I kept a small potted rose by the shop door. When the first bloom opened, I took a picture.

I didn’t send it to Owen. I didn’t send it to anyone. I just saved it on my phone and looked out at the ocean.

The wind off the water felt gentle and free.

I finally understood that wanting to share wasn’t wrong.

Talking wasn’t wrong.

What was wrong was giving all my passion to someone who refused to listen.

Now I take back all the little pieces of my life.

From now on, the sunsets, the roses, and the ocean breeze are all mine.
