He Set Rules for Me but Broke Them All for Her Chapter 09

He Set Rules for Me but Broke Them All for Her Chapter 09

While Soren was in the restroom, I settled the bill.

When I returned to my seat, Cora was standing right before me.

Her eyes were a storm of emotions.

A long silence. Then she sat down across from me and spoke. “You’re pretty pleased with yourself, aren’t you, Marnie? Finally, after all this time, you’ve won once.”

I had no idea what she was talking about.

“I made up everything I said back there in the private room. I just couldn’t stand losing to you.

You’re not as pretty as me. Your family’s not as well off. Standing with you, people only ever

complimented me.”

Her voice cracked. “But then why… why does he love you? What gives you the right?!”

Her hand moved to her bag. She pulled out a document, tears streaming down her face. “I’m pregnant with his child. Please, don’t take him away from me!”

The wind picked up, carrying a chill.

And suddenly, I just felt sad.

What was it about Remy that made two girls tear each other apart over him?

“I won’t fight you for him.”

I met her gaze calmly.

And then, one by one, I listed all the dishes she loved, all her little preferences, all the places she’d

casually mentioned wanting to go. Things I’d remembered over the years.

I watched a crack in her carefully composed face.

“Cora, I hope you never regret the choices you’re making right now.”

I tapped the table.

Then I walked away with Soren, who’d been waiting for me.

Behind me, Cora’s shoulders shook. But from now on, there would be no girl left to wipe her tears.

Soren’s car was parked outside.

He opened the door and found a huge bouquet of white lisianthus on the seat. He picked it up.

“Marnie, I know a confession is supposed to be a whole production. But I couldn’t wait anymore.

His eyes were almost too sincere.

“Just like the day we first met. Give me a chance. From now on, every moment you feel alone, I’ll be

there with you.”

I stood frozen, fingers twitching.

This confession came out of nowhere, throwing everything into chaos.

“Don’t say yes. Marnie.”

Remy appeared behind me, eyes red, murmuring. “Don’t…”

“Marnie, it’s been five years. I can’t let go of our five years. It’s breaking me. I dream about our engagement. I truly want to grow old with you. Please, give me one more chance to make it right.”

I stepped past him, my heart quieter than it had ever been.

“Remy, there’s no chance for us. From the very beginning, I was never your first choice. But now, I don’t care anymore.”

I smiled.

As Soren’s face grew more tense, I took the white lisianthus from his hands.

Remy’s face went pale. His arms dropped limp at his sides.

I got into the passenger seat without looking back.

Slowly, his figure grew smaller and smaller behind us.

As the car cruised forward, Soren’s hand intertwined with mine and held on tight.

I laughed at how nervous he looked.

I looked up at the sky.

Still that clear blue. Sunny. 82°F.

Summer was so precious.

And I would never again lose myself for anyone.
