In the car, Jaxon begged me to listen. 

He said she was just a girl who had a crush on him–she reminded him of his younger self. 

Nothing had happened between them. 

He squeezed my hand tightly. “I’ve loved you for years. We’re getting married in three days. Please trust me.” 

His fingers tightened. Strangely, I felt calmer. 

I looked at him calmly. “Jaxon, maybe we shouldn’t get 

married.” 

“What?” 

Panic flashed in his eyes–too real to be fake. 

“Our wedding is in three days, baby. Don’t say things your 

don’t mean.” 

“Jaxon, are you really that bitter?” I smiled softly. “You think I chose you as a second choice. You don’t believe I stopped 

loving Kian. You think I still have a place for him in my heart, don’t you?” 

“No.” 

“It’s not like that.” 

I smiled through tears. “I really did love you, Jaxon. I loved 

your gentleness, your care, the way you made me feel special. Love doesn’t need a reason. The night you stood in the rain… 

my heart skipped a beat. I thought, maybe it’s you.” 

His eyes glistened. His voice shook as he reached to wipe my tears. “I know. Please stop. I feel like you’re breaking up with me.” 

“Don’t leave me. Please.” 

“Jaxon, do you love me?” 

He answered without hesitation. “Yes. More than anyone. I 

love you more than anything.” 

But you’re the one who hurt me. 

I sniffled. “Then I’ll believe you. Just this once.” 

After all–the time wasn’t right yet. 

Two days before the wedding, Jaxon and I went back to our 

own homes. 

He held my hand tightly when he dropped me off, scared I’d 

run away. 

“Chloe, we’re really getting married, right?” 

I didn’t answer. 

He convinced himself. “Of course we are. We’re getting 

married.” 

That night, I snuck back to the apartment filled with our 

memories. 

I packed up everything that belonged to me. 

I even wiped away every strand of my hair from the floors. 

All I left behind was the pile of broken gifts, the torn wedding dress, my diary, and our rings. 

I couldn’t wait to see Jaxon’s face when he realized I was gone 

on our wedding day. 

It would be priceless.
