He Secretly Used Our Down Payment to Buy Her a Luxury Bag Chapter 08

After that day, he stopped manufacturing emergencies just to get me called in.

The company’s problems suddenly became far less frequent, and I returned to my previous work schedule.

With so much free time on my hands, I started thinking about a side business of my own.

Over the past two years, handcrafted home goods and accessories from back home had become

increasingly popular overseas.

I decided to build a small shop around that demand.

It would not be easy. I would have to deal with importing and exporting, find the right storefront,

and decide which products to stock.

Fortunately, I had plenty of time to work everything out gradually.

The next morning, I planned to survey the nearby market.

The moment I stepped outside, however, I found Elliot’s car waiting for me.

“Where are you going?” he asked. “I’ll drive you.”

I glanced at the traffic alert on my rideshare app, then opened the car door and got in.

We reached my destination soon afterward.

I got out, and Elliot followed me.

He had barely opened his mouth when his phone chimed.

He looked down at the screen. His expression changed instantly, and he grabbed my wrist.

“Stella, what is this supposed to mean?”

He held up his phone.

The screen showed the payment I had sent him.

“Fare for the ride,” I said calmly.

His face darkened.

I pulled my hand free. “Don’t look at me like that. Isn’t money what matters most to you? I paid you exactly what a local rideshare would have charged, so you didn’t lose anything.”

His voice came out hoarse. “Stella, do you really feel nothing for me anymore? We were together for three years.”

I cut him off. “Don’t humiliate yourself.”

Elliot fell silent.

I turned and walked away.

I had expected him to leave, unable to tolerate the rejection. Instead, he followed me again.

This time, however, he simply followed in silence and did not try to bother me.

I could not be bothered to stop him.

That evening, Elliot drove me home again.

As I got out of the car, he called after me. “Have dinner with me tonight.”

I frowned.

Before I could refuse, he continued, “You want to open a shop and start a business, don’t you?

Figuring everything out alone will take time and effort. I already have the experience, and I can teach you everything I know.”

I studied him.

Elliot forced a smile. “Don’t worry. I won’t drag the process out just to spend more time with you.”

After considering it for a moment, I agreed.

Only a fool would refuse to make use of resources that were already available.

But I added one condition.

“I’ll pay you a consulting fee.”

The light in Elliot’s eyes dimmed.

In the end, he nodded.
