Elliot did not come home for the next several days.

While wrapping up my work and handing off my responsibilities, I packed my bags. Other than my own clothes, jewelry, and makeup, I left behind everything connected to Elliot.

I also sold the designer bag to a luxury resale shop and split the proceeds evenly.

I pulled my two suitcases upright, then looked around the rental apartment where I had lived for three years.

With all my belongings gone, the place hardly looked any different.

It was as if my presence had mattered just as little in Elliot’s life.

At the airport, I had barely cleared security when my phone rang from an unfamiliar number.

I answered.

A soft female voice came through the line. “Ms. Bennett, I’m the woman who sold you the iPad on Mercari. My housekeeper accidentally packed the wrong one, and there’s a lot of important personal information on it. Could you return it? I’ll buy you a brand-new iPad to make up for the inconvenience.”

I gave a quiet scoff. “By important personal information, do you mean the private videos?”

“You watched them?” she shrieked. “That’s an invasion of my privacy!”

Before I could respond, someone snatched the phone from her.

A second later, a familiar male voice came through the line.

“Return the iPad intact, and you can name your price. But if I find out you shared those videos with anyone, you’ll regret it.”

I was silent for a moment.

Then I said calmly, “Elliot, the iPad is on the coffee table in the living room. Go get it yourself.”

I hung up before he could react.

He called back almost immediately, but I ignored it. I removed the SIM card from my phone and dropped it into a trash can.

When I opened Messages, Elliot’s texts had already filled the screen.

I did not read a single one. I deleted the conversation and blocked his number.

A boarding announcement sounded overhead.

I strode toward the gate, ready to begin a new life.
