He Secretly Married His Mistress While Living Off My Money—So I Stripped His Wealth Overnight Chapter 08

Brendan tried to dismiss the claim instinctively.

“That’s impossible, the negotiator was just our employee Sorrel Bennett, she’s…”

His words died mid-sentence, a brutal realization crashing over him.

He froze rigid, only his lips trembling uncontrollably.

Fumbling for his phone, he shook badly while searching public information on Meridian Metropolis’s top

tycoon and his children.

No official portraits or names of the tycoon’s offspring appeared online.

But the published photo of Mr. Bennett bore an uncanny 50% facial resemblance to Sorrel.

All hidden pieces of the puzzle clicked into place at last.

Just as Brendan teetered on the edge of breakdown, his company phone blared again.

The caller’s announcement crushed his last thread of hope.

“Sir, every long-term investor has withdrawn all capital.”

“They only recognize Sorrel; upon hearing she’s left your employment, all businesses cut all future ties.”

They’ve got endless alternative suppliers, and only trusted your firm due to Sorrel’s outstanding vision,

integrity and capability. No reputable entrepreneur works with a boss who mistreats his most vital core

talent.”

Within a single day, the company’s capital chain fully ruptured.

All projects folded, corporate reputation plummeted, and bankruptcy loomed unavoidably.

Dejected and hollow, Brendan hurried back to the office.

A stifling gloomy atmosphere hung over the workspace as every employee scrambled frantically on

business calls.

Maren stood waiting with her faintly rounded stomach, features twisted in hurt grievance.

She latched onto him the second he walked in, spouting nothing but slander against Sorrel.

“Brendan, everyone says Sorrel’s to blame! She’s vengeful and ruined our business out of jealousy for our

happiness.”

In past days, Brendan would’ve soothed her and sided with her unconditionally.

Now her artificial whining grated unbearably on his nerves.

He pulled his arm sharply out of her grasp, eyes cold and full of disdain.

“Shut your mouth.”

“Without Sorrel’s corporate need-based scholarship fund covering your tuition year after year, you’d be waiting tables at diners homeless on the street with none of your current life. You’ve no right to badmouth her.”

Maren’s indignant expression froze instantly.

She gaped up at him in total shock.

“You swore you were the one funding my schooling and lifting me out of hardship, Sorrel had nothing to do with it!”

For seven years she’d cherished gratitude toward Brendan, convinced his financial aid pulled her through college, which was why she’d devoted herself to staying by his side.

His brutal confession shattered every belief she’d held.

Brendan avoided her stare, pretending to sort paperwork to dodge her questioning, overcome with awkward

irritation.

Their business partner could no longer stand watching the mess Brendan created through foolish choices.

Seething with rage, he tossed aside all discretion and laid bare every hidden truth with a cold snort.

“Maren, Sorrel was the sole creator behind that student aid initiative from the very beginning.”

Every scholarship payment came straight out of her personal salary and commissions; the firm’s name was

only used for appearance’s sake. Brendan never contributed a single cent, do you understand now?”
