Amid the chaos, no one noticed Clara, standing in the corner, turn as white as a sheet. Her hands began to tremble.

Just then, the office door opened.

An official from the county agriculture department walked in, a wide smile on his face.

“Wyatt, I’m guessing you’ve seen the news. I came by to personally—”

His gaze swept the room and landed on Clara. His smile deepened.

“Oh, Miss Clara, you’re here too. Perfect. We were just about to head over to find your sister and deliver this notice of honor in person.”

Clara looked as if she’d been struck by lightning.

A flush of panic broke through her pallor.

She rushed forward, blocking the official’s path, her voice shrill and trembling.

“Mr. Henderson, there has to be a mistake! My sister… Lena couldn’t possibly have won!”
