He Said ‘Of Course’ to Every Insult About Me, I Said ‘Of Course’ to Walking Away Chapter 06

Later, with my lawyer’s help, I sued everyone who had spread that fake video of me.

And as public outrage grew, all three of them were thoroughly investigated by the authorities.

Within days, Ethan’s company stock plummeted.

Employees outside the inner circle resigned en masse and vented online, exposing how they’d been/

exploited.

The fledgling company became an empty shell overnight.

Netizens who realized they’d been used as pawns were furious and added their voices.

[I thought this was some cute text-fic romance-girl falls for her startup co-founder. Turns out it’s just backstabbing assholes dragging all of us into their drama!]

[Who the hell would trust a company with a CEO like that? One wrong move and you’re the one

getting doxxed and trashed online!]

[Oh my God, I actually got swept up and trashed that girl before. Now I wanna go back in time and slap myself…]

[I said ‘hey, maybe we should wait for more info’ and y’all called me a dumbass.]

[No, you were right. We owe her an apology. Welcome back to the right side of history.]

In no time, the company’s every social platform was flooded with hate.

My friend sent me all this while I was in a meeting with new business partners.

With my parents’ full support and our collaboration with Liam, expanding into new international markets was going smoothly.

The skills I’d honed supporting Ethan’s startup and pitching to investors landed me plenty of new

partners.

With Liam’s guidance, I became sharper and more incisive in meetings.

As I shook hands with a partner, he gave me a nod of respect. “Now that’s a woman with some

backbone.”

I smiled. “Pleasure doing business.”

I walked out of the building into brilliant sunshine.

I was no longer the outsider who couldn’t fit into a clique. I’d become the core of my own team.

At home, our mutual friend sent me Naomi’s latest post, ranting to me.

“I cannot believe one comment blew up into this whole thing.”

“Okay so, her account got totally exposed and she got dragged to hell! Ethan was brutal-he

straight-up fired her, like, total damage control.”

“Now Naomi’s name is absolute mud in this industry. She can’t land a job anywhere.”

“And that other guy, Jack? He was already drowning in debt from his startup, and now? Even more

screwed. Dude actually got locked up over what he pulled on you.”

“They totally had it coming.”

Turns out, after everything went down, Ethan’s little clique had a huge blowout.

Jack blamed Ethan for driving me to snap and ruining the company.

“If you hadn’t pushed to marry Natalie just because she could help the company, none of this crap

would’ve happened!”

Ethan had been fed up with him for ages and, seeing things were beyond repair, exploded.

“If you hadn’t run your mouth during that stupid game, she wouldn’t have gotten mad!”

“You were the one who kept hinting you didn’t want to get married so soon! We were just sticking

up for you!”

Naomi tried to break up the fight, but her words only pissed Ethan off more.

“Stop fighting! The important thing is she’s suing!”

Ethan sneered.

“We made that video for you! You were the one freaking out and saying you were scared. Now it’s blown up-who’s going to take the fall?”

Naomi shouted defensively, “You were both totally on board at the time!”

“And during that game, Ethan, why didn’t you deny it yourself?”

Jack jumped to Naomi’s defense.

“You’re the one who couldn’t have what you wanted. Don’t take it out on Naomi!”

Naomi’s gaze flickered. Ethan laughed like he’d heard the world’s biggest joke.

“How could I possibly love her?!”

in the ensuing mess, they realized Naomi had been using Ethan as an excuse to reject Jack’s advances.

After all the shouting, silence fell.

The clique split up, just like that.

Hearing this, I felt a twinge of melancholy.

That group chat I could never break into, no matter how hard I tried-how indestructible it had seemed.

Yet it was this fragile.

One big crisis and it all fell apart.

“Right?! Honestly, I always thought those three were way too close. It was weird.’

I just shrugged and smiled.

Back when I cared about Ethan, those things felt like the end of the world.

Now that I see clearly, I just feel sorry for the person I used to be.
