He Said I Was Slow to Commit While He Was Slow to Tell Me About Her Chapter 13

I walked out of the shop.

As the door closed behind me, I heard Stella call my name softly.

I did not turn around.

The wind was cold.

I pulled my zipper to my chin and walked slowly down the sidewalk.

My phone buzzed.

Weston had sent me one of the finished engagement photos.

[This one’s my favorite. I already sent it to your

mom.]

I looked at it for a moment.

[Mine too.]

Right after I sent the message, I passed a flower shop.

I stopped, went inside, and bought one white rose.

I carried it for several blocks.

Drops of water still clung to the petals and caught the streetlights.

I had always loved that.

But loving something did not mean you were meant to keep it.

At home, I put the rose in an empty glass bottle on the corner of my desk.

Then I opened my notebook and went back to my blueprints.

Outside the window, the moon climbed higher behind a thin layer of clouds.

Five more days.
