He Said I Was Overreacting, I Said I Was Over Him Chapter 10

He Said I Was Overreacting, I Said I Was Over Him Chapter 10

knocked over his chair.

These were Anna’s emergency records from six months ago.

The cold, clinical notes laid out every detail of the crisis,

“Altered mental status, acute anaphylactic shock…”

“Patient experienced brief cardiac arrest, successfully resuscitated…”

“Dilation and curettage procedure, intraoperative blood loss…”

He stared at those pages, remembering how he’d mixed the pills into her milk and watched her

drink it.

He remembered pulling Zoe into his arms and turning off his phone.

He remembered how smug he’d felt the next day when Anna was so easy to calm down over the

phone.

Suddenly, he heard his own voice from behind him.

“Anna, I was wrong! The first time, Zoe said she was drunk and begged me to take her home. I don’t

even know how it happened…”

He spun around. A colleague was looking at him awkwardly.

They held up their phones, trying to explain. “Sorry, man. Forgot to mute it.”

The female colleague beside him sneered, “What’s there to explain to a scumbag like him? I always knew something was off with him and Zoe. What a pair of trash.”

Lucas’s face flushed red. “What the hell are you talking about?”

She shot back without backing down, “Can’t own up to it? Isn’t that you in the video?”

“You drugged your girlfriend and killed your own kid. Are you even human?”

The executive assistant rushed over and put a stop to the argument.

When Lucas slunk into the CEO’s office, he saw Zoe sitting there, her face just as pale as his.

He knew we were done.

He wanted to do what he always did-beg, kneel, throw a tantrum. As long as I caved, everything

could go back to how it was.

But this time, I didn’t give him that chance. I went straight for the one thing he cared about most-

s reputation and career.

Three years later. France.

I’d just finished a negotiation and returned to my office when Oliver followed me in.

He casually took my coat and hung it up, then poured me a cup of hot tea.

“Congratulations. With this deal, our market share just went up another 5%.”

I took the tea and raised an eyebrow. “Then shouldn’t you be treating your star employee to a nice dinner tonight?”

“Absolutely. I booked your favorite restaurant.” Oliver kissed the top of my head, then leaned down, his gaze focused and tender. “The only question is, will you do me the honor of coming?”

I laughed and pushed him away. “Let’s go. I’m going to eat you broke.”

As we were joking, an email notification popped up.

I opened it. Inside was a photo.

Lucas looked gaunt, unshaven, surrounded by empty liquor bottles.

Lucas: [Anna, I’m dying. Can you come back and see me?]

Oliver leaned over and frowned. “That’s your ex? I heard he got fired, but how did he end up like

this?”

I let out a cold laugh.

Oliver wrapped his arms around me and swayed. “Anna, are you going back? I mean…”

I nodded. “Yeah, I am.”

Oliver went quiet for a moment, his eyes falling with disappointment.

I burst out laughing, then hit delete permanently without hesitation.

I pinched his cheek. “I have to go back next week for a work report, and I’m taking you to meet my

parents. What, you don’t want to come?”

Oliver’s eyes lit up. He spun me around excitedly.

“Yes! I’ll book the tickets now!”

The shadows of the past were far behind me.

There was no room left in my life for those who betrayed me, only clear skies.
